  Objectives / Purpose of Job

  • Assist the Electrical Design Manager in the medical device division of a major biomedical company
  • Apply knowledge of electrical and systems engineering principles to coordinate and support the design and prototyping of new PCBs for cataract and vitreoretinal ophthalmic surgical equipment
  • Work closely with project managers to ensure effective communication and coordination

Key Activities / Responsibilities
  • Assist the Electrical Engineering Design Manager in day-to-day operations of the electrical design group
  • Drive team members in the creation of PCB functional specifications
  • Review PCB designs and provide feedback
  • Coordinate PCB prototype construction, track progress, and report status and projected timelines to project management
  • Support board bring-up and provide technical coaching to team members through challenges
  • Track PCB design issues in log form and work through to closure
  • Estimate resources and schedules for new designs and design changes in partnership with project managers
  • Collaborate with procurement to facilitate rapid and efficient transfer and scale-up of pilot production for PCBs

Scope of Position
  • Individual contributor based at the St. Louis site
  • Work within the St. Louis product development group and collaborate with systems and project management groups
  • Coordinate with external PCB prototype and initial manufacturing suppliers

Key Relationships
  • Internal: Design Quality, Systems & Project Management groups
  • External: PCB prototype and production vendors, Procurement, Manufacturing

Qualifications / Training
Required Education:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)

Preferred Education:
  • Advanced technical degree preferred
  • MBA is helpful

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
  • Comfortable with embedded system PCB domains (embedded microprocessors, analog and digital design, stepper motor drives, sensor interfaces)
  • Experience with Altium Designer is highly useful
  • Experience with Orcad is helpful
  • Familiarity with algorithm design, root cause analysis techniques, and technical writing

Required Experience:
  • At least 15 to 20 years of experience in electronic design and testing of electronic circuitry
  • Experience bringing designs into production

Preferred Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience in electronic design for medical products
  • Lead Project Engineer or Project Manager experience is beneficial
