Kelly has been providing outstanding employment opportunities to the most talented individuals in the marketplace.  We are proud to offer a temporary position with a client that is seeking a Fermentation Technician in Indianapolis, IN.

PAY:  $21-23/hr – W2
DURATION:  12 months
LOCATION:  On-Site – Indianapolis, IN
SCHEDULE:  M- F (1st shift – days) - 40 hours + OT, Required weekend work 2x/month
• Schedule is a little flexible - start 7:30am - must be in before 8:30am Team Meeting - shift end 5:30pm
• 1-3 weekend days per month - shifts are 2-4 hours sampling & modifications - not necessarily OT as they could possibly choose to leave early during the week.

Description:
• Interview required? Yes - Phone interview, then Onsite Interview
• Any exposure to common allergens? - Nuts, Plants, Chemicals, Latex
• 80%-90% Lab work + some documentation
• Entry Level position - they will start by washing glassware, prepping various assemblies then move to train on more complex solutions.
• Some lab experience is highly preferred
• Strong Science background required & interest highly preferred. Biology / Chemistry / Chemical Engineering / Microbiology / Organic Chemistry / Physics
• Familiarity with hand tools would be a plus as they do their own equipment repairs.
• Self-Starter as there is always something to do.
• Likely to extend past 1 year - not a seasonal role.

Specific Technical Job Responsibilities:
Is responsible for the full operation of fermenters (sterilization of fermenter contents, fermenter repair and troubleshooting, inoculation, cell growth/feeding, harvest, de-vitalization of cells, fermenter cleaning), possesses a high level of sterile technique, inoculates shake flasks and samples shake flasks in a sterile manner, performs fermenter sampling and monitoring during routine work hours, operates autoclave in a safe manner, mixes acids/bases in a safe manner, performs off-line sample analysis that involves the use of the following equipment, viscometer, centrifuge, spectrophotometer, and pH meter, performs preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment to ensure accurate operation.

  • Schedules and manages own work tasks in alignment with the overall team plan of work and project goals, independently performs research tasks according to standard operating procedures.
  • Recognizes opportunities to standard operating procedures.
  • With guidance, can adapt operating procedures as needed to meet experimental objectives.
  • Operates relevant lab equipment based on standard operating procedures.
  • Can recognize equipment malfunctions and understands basic, routine maintenance.
  • Develops expertise in one or more specific areas.
  • Key equipment will be specific to the job assignment.
  • Documents work consistently using appropriate data collection tools.
  • Recognizes when results deviate from expectations.
  • Makes disciplined use of lab data book and can contribute to technology reports with experimental data. Assumes responsibility for ordering of laboratory supplies.
  • Handles receipt and stocking of materials and supplies.
  • Identifies opportunities, with management input, to improve material use and reduce costs.
  • Identifies opportunities to further enhance the work process or experimental design based on personal experience and through deployment of improvement tools such as participation on Six Sigma project teams.
  • Contributes actively to managing teamwork load.
  • Demonstrates behaviors that enhance and accelerate team performance.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of basic computer skills including MS Office platforms such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
     
Notes:
While this is a laboratory position, there are also mechanical/maintenance elements to the role. For example, the technician will work on and replace valves on the bioreactors; will perform maintenance tasks.
