Field Service Engineer
 
Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Field Service Engineer focused on supporting equipment integration and production launches at multiple GM facilities. This is a minimum 6-month+ contract position with an automated equipment manufacturer located in Wixom, MI. Overview 
 
This client manufactures automated metrology/inspection equipment applicable to a variety of industries. Their Michigan location supports automotive customers with high volume production.  
 
In this role, you will travel to GM facilities in the Northeast US to install, commission, and startup equipment. You will be able to confidently direct unionized skilled trades ensuring proper assembly and installation of automated measurement systems. You will have prior experience and/or working knowledge of GM's safety standards including GM's Lockout/Tagout procedures.
Travel Requirements: Approximately 75% travel to GM locations including: Bedford, IN Toledo, OH Defiance, OH Tonawanda, NY
Key Responsibilities:

Installation Commissioning:

  • Serve as the on-site lead for installation and commissioning of automated CMM systems.
  • Direct and support skilled trades during equipment assembly and integration.
  • Troubleshoot and run off CMM automated loading systems.
  • Oversee equipment through the PRO TAG process.
  • Program and troubleshoot safety systems, electrical systems, and Watlow HVAC controllers.
  • Communicate installation status to project managers and document system acceptance.
  • Validate contractor and vendor deliverables.
  • Create custom documentation for each unique system.

Engineering Support:
  • Identify and report necessary engineering changes.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to validate and implement changes.
  • On-Site Customer Support:
  • Train customers and field service technicians on system operation and troubleshooting.
  • Manage and direct skilled trades at customer facilities.
  • Certify runoff and ensure successful system launch.

Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working inside GM facilities in order to be familiar with GM safety standards is required.
  • Experience integrating equipment for production launches, prior CMM experience a plus.
  • Must be familiar with automotive environments, including working with plant personnel and navigating production floor protocols.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read blueprints and CAD drawings.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and general computer skills.
  • Electrical systems troubleshooting experience is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • HS Diploma, required. Engineering Degree a plus
