Kelly Engineering is currently seeking an experienced Health & Safety Field Technician to join a leading and quickly growing chemical company in the Orange, Texas area! If you have previous knowledge and experience of EH&S processes and tools, then this just might be the position for you!

The Health & Safety Field Technician provides full time personnel safety support to field work activities at both the Sabine River and Beaumont sites to ensure understanding of requirements and excellence in the safe execution of work.  Working directly with the Operations EHS Team, this person will ensure all field work done by Dow and Contractor personnel is performed safely. This is to be accomplished through coaching and interacting with people in the field to ensure the safety of personnel, compliance to safety programs, and correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Health & Safety Field Technician will be expected to perform the following:

  • Approximately 80% of the time must be spent in the field, physically observing work, attending safety meetings and interacting with people. 
  • Coaches individuals on various aspects of Personal Safety to increase/improve performance.
  • Conduct safety observations and interventions (positive and negative).
  • Ensures that the right tools are being used, and that they are being used properly.
  • Interacts with personnel on Dow global / site safety policies and procedures.
  • Drives safety practices, processes and rules as required to meet “ZERO” injuries on all activities.
  • Ensures that the work done stays within the scope of the planned job / SWP.
  • Conduct self-assessment/audits for compliance to Site and Global Personal Safety Policies and correct of deficiencies.
  • Work with appropriate Maintenance and Construction personnel to understand the daily work for observation / intervention opportunities.
  • Work with the Operations EHS Techs for functional direction on EH&S Policies and Standards.
  • Escalate to Area Leadership (including EHS) for resolution, any life critical uncorrected safety deficiencies or repeated safety violations the individual becomes aware of.
  • Support environmental needs in the field to ensure work is done LOPC free, waste is managed per requirements, and environmental requirements are followed.

Qualifications:
  • Excellent knowledge of safety practices and willingness to coach others to adhere to those practices.
  • Strong leadership ability Excellent interpersonal skills, including good coaching skills & communication skills
  • Demonstration of the ability to solve problems and make decisions at a task force level.
  • Planning and organizational talent.
  • Adaptable to changes.      
  • Strong initiative and able to work with very little oversight.

Computer Skills
Skills for communications (e-mail, word processing and EXCEL experience)

Physical Demands
  • Position requires stamina.
  • Requires approximately 80% of time to be spent in the field (not in the office)
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to wear appropriate PPE, climb, and be able to walk through production units being aware of visual and audible alarms and warnings.

Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee works in outside weather conditions and in working production area of various chemical plants.
  • Work in hazardous areas (proximity to equipment with moving parts and containing substances with high/low temperatures and pressures, etc.).

Schedule
Work schedule will likely follow a 9/80 schedule.  There may be times when the individual will need to work a Friday or weekend to cover a turnaround or special work.  Overtime should be controlled below 15% unless special approval is given
