Histology Manager

Salary: $109,000—$150,000 depending on experience
Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Overview
This client is an industry-leading company that is pioneering advancements in cancer diagnostics. The Histology Manager is responsible for supervising and overseeing the histology lab's daily operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and leading a team of histology professionals. This role is critical in maintaining the highest standards in histological procedures, quality assurance, and laboratory efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality histological procedures, including microtomy, mounting, and staining.
  • Cut and mount high-quality paraffin-embedded sections with speed and precision.
  • Prepare microscopic slides for diagnostic purposes, including embedding, microtomy, and mounting.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and client information.
  • File paraffin blocks and microscopic slides while ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Prepare solutions and reagents for automated stainers.
  • Manage daily workflow and QC/QA documentation.
  • Troubleshoot processing, microtomy, staining, and equipment issues.
  • Perform and document scheduled preventative maintenance.
  • Conduct training, competency evaluations, and staff development.
  • Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and OSHA regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with pathology, supply chain, and client services teams.
  • Maintain a positive and efficient work environment.
  • Dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous materials safely.
  • Flex schedule as needed to accommodate workload, including weekend coverage.
  • Perform all duties in alignment with company quality systems and compliance policies.
Qualifications
  • Education: BA/BS degree required; BS in chemical, physical, or biological sciences, or medical technology preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Certifications: HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) required.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with CLIA, CAP, and OSHA requirements.
  • Skills & Attributes:
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and LIS.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment. Physical Requirements
    • Repetitive hand, arm, and leg movements.
    • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
    • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for specimen handling.
    • Use of personal protective equipment (gloves, lab coats, safety glasses).
    • Occasional walking, standing, stooping, and moving about.
