Laboratory Technician- Direct Hire
Pay: $20.50/hr
Location: Portland, OR 97210
Overview:
We are a leading international analytical laboratory dedicated to ensuring global food health and safety through exceptional analytical testing services. We are currently seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our Bioanalytical Laboratory team. This vital role is essential for providing high-quality DNA and microbiology testing services, supporting the continuous flow of samples, and proposing process improvements to enhance our operations and contribute to the company's mission.
Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory technician duties according to documented methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including:
- Preparation of microbiological media and reagents.
- Preparation and plating of microbiological samples for routine testing.
- Reagent and solvent preparation.
- Perform routine DNA extraction for GMO testing and evaluate non-routine samples with supervisor guidance.
- Wash and clean glassware and equipment to prevent cross-contamination and maintain a clean work area.
- Schedule activities to ensure accurate and timely service in support of business needs.
- Enter data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and ensure accuracy of results.
- Follow safety protocols and report unsafe conditions or accidents.
- Perform sample login for Bioanalytical test samples and generate unique sample ID numbers using LIMS.
- Troubleshoot issues with sample/media preparation, extraction procedures, and sample log-in processes in coordination with supervisor.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and perform minor repairs; notify supervisor of external repair needs.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by proposing changes for quality improvements, method performance, cost reductions, or time efficiency.
- Cross-train and support the DNA Sample Prep department, including sample preparation for DNA and allergen analyses and archival of test samples.
- Assist other departments as needed, including Sample Receiving and Chemistry Laboratory.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Bioanalytical Group Leader.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree (A.S.) in Microbiology, Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in laboratory testing, sample preparation, and data management preferred.
- Knowledge of DNA extraction and microbiological testing methods is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with teams.
- Familiarity with LIMS software and MS Office applications is advantageous.
