Manufacturing Technician I – Batch Fill
Verona, WI
 
Job Summary and Purpose: The Lab Technician I provides essential support in the manufacturing of vaccines by performing various cell, viral, and bacterial culture processes. This role involves a range of responsibilities related to tissue culture, documentation, equipment operation, and maintaining a clean and sterile laboratory environment.
 
Details:
Pay: $19/hr
Hours: 7:30AM – 4PM; able to work OT as needed)
Duration: Direct-Hire (permanent position)
 
Responsibilities and Key Duties:

  • Conduct and/or assist in small and large-scale non-viral and viral tissue culture and aerobic and anaerobic bacterial culture operations using antibiotic-free media.
  • Perform tasks such as observation, inoculation, harvest, inactivation, precipitation, decantation, and storage processes in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Assist with and/or perform inactivated fraction, modified live virus, and live virus antigen pooling and bulking procedures.
  • Daily observation and documentation of viral and bacterial cultures.
  • Assist in creating primary cell cultures in antibiotic-free media.
  • Handle post-lyophilization activities, including product removal, capping, inventory management, storage, and equipment cleaning.
  • Operate and/or assist with the operation of the lyophilizer.
  • Prepare solutions and ensure equipment is ready for use.
  • Perform filling procedures for inactivated, modified live virus, and/or diluent products.
  • Maintain cleanliness and disinfection of laboratories and equipment.
  • Keep frozen seed inventory up to date.
  • Freeze new cell passages as directed.
  • Maintain records of limited deviations due to "negligence."
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and provide suggestions for improvements as necessary.
  • Accurately complete all necessary documentation following good documentation practices.
  • Perform general housekeeping of halls, airlocks, laboratories, storage areas, and equipment.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.
 
Technical / Functional Competencies:
  • Strong mathematical aptitude.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Knowledge of cleanroom behavior and aseptic techniques.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
 
Qualifications:
  • Education: Undergraduate degree in biology or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Work Experience: Previous laboratory work preferred but not required.
 
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to read, write legibly, and understand English.
  • Frequent repetitions of squatting, bending, reaching, and twisting.
  • Prolonged standing for extended periods.
  • Lifting up to 55 pounds and greater (with team lift).
  • Frequent repetition of wrist and shoulder rotations.
  • Dexterity: Frequent fine motor movements.
  • Visual inspection for comparison to color standards.
 
Working Conditions:
  • Cleanroom manufacturing laboratory with dedicated and sterile full-suit gowns, including face masks.
  • Egg and fermentation production laboratory with exposure to warm to cold temperature extremes.
