Materials Engineer
Kelly Services is currently seeking a Materials Engineer for one of our top clients in Warsaw, IN.
- The position is organized within Customer Research Development Labs known as Medical Technology, Evaluation, Simulation, Testing MedTEST .
- As a materials scientist and engineer, you will address material selection challenges, investigate product fractures, and manage material and engineering specifications for our full range of materials used in our diverse products.
- Apply your understanding of materials structure-property relationships to participate hands-on in the lab to characterize and evaluate materials, improve materials and/or process performance, and perform verifications/validations
Responsibilities
- Manage and execute projects in the evaluation and analysis of materials, technologies, and processes for use with orthopaedic products.
- Materials technical support to orthopedic business partners to improve device function, quality, and cost.
- Collaboratively solve technical challenges, lead technical investigations, develop testing methodologies, perform materials characterization studies, interpret test results, and communicate to internal and external partners of varying levels and backgrounds the significance of and impact to material and property performance.
- Conduct failure analysis investigations for orthopaedic implants and instruments.
- Use good laboratory practices to perform hands-on materials evaluations using SEM/EDS, optical and digital microscopy, image analysis, metallography, mechanical testing, thermal analysis, spectroscopy, and chromatography.
- Write and maintain technical reports, materials and processes specifications, work instructions, test methods, and procedures.
- Lead lab instrument/equipment installation qualifications and test method validations.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4-year bachelor s degree in Materials Science and/or Engineering, or equivalent degree, is required.
- Attention to detail is vital. Good Documentations Practices and Good Laboratory Practices are required.
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic self-starter, works under own initiative and as an extraordinary teammate.
- Outstanding technical writing skills.
- Ability to independently perform hands-on lab work performing chemical, physical, and mechanical testing in a materials lab.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to use computer and laboratory equipment and software, statistical data analysis, and test results interpretation.
- Demonstrated problem solving capabilities.
- Understanding of statistical validation methodologies
- Preference will be given to candidates with medical device or any relevant materials industry experience.
