Mechanical Designer   (Solon, Ohio)
Steel Designer (2D-3D CAD Designer)

SUMMARY:
Our client, a small engineering-equipment supply company, has a need for a Engineering Designer to provide structural details and assembly drawings for outdoor structures in electrical substations.  The Designer will work with electrical layout drawings, general arrangement drawings, sketches, and equipment cut sheets to generate 3D models and 2D drawings. 
 
Client has consistently delivered high quality, outdoor electrical substation packages for over fifty years. Implementation of a time-tested, unique approach that blends customer requirements and engineering solutions using the latest technology  makes this company a recognized leader in the substation utility industry. 
       
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Design and detail steel and aluminum structures using Autodesk AutoCAD 2D and Autodesk Inventor 3D.
Create 3D models and 3D assemblies using Inventor. 
Create shop drawings and field assembly drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor.
Maintain electronic CAD files using Autodesk Vault. 
Use standard structural shapes and tapered tubular sections.
Follow general arrangement drawings and equipment support details. 
Work with and follow instructions from engineers and senior designers.  
Apply in house detailing standards and practices.
Coordinate with office staff on document releases.
Communicate with fabricators and customers on project coordination.
 
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Experienced with AutoCAD 2D, Inventor 3D, and Vault. Proven expertise with the software and its capabilities.
Two-year accredited Design and Drafting Program, or equivalent Engineering Design experience within related industry. 
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization from senior management to manufacturing partners.
Excellent mathematical skills including fundamental understanding of geometry, trigonometry, and solid geometry. 
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel & Word.
Problem Solving Skills based on information, data, and observation.
