Sheet Metal Finishing Tech
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Finishing Tech to join our team. You will be responsible for using various tools and techniques to finish sheet metal in preparation for painting or powder coating.
Job Specifications:
- Job Type: Full-time
- Location: Newport News, VA
-Pay $18/hr
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Lift and position workpieces manually onto tables.
- Utilize electric or air-operated grinders to polish, remove weld marks, and/or remove paint.
- Identify the correct type and grit of sanding or grinding media.
- Transport goods using carts, pallet jacks, or by hand between workstations and the paint department.
- Ability to lift 50-75 lbs and perform physical tasks such as reaching, bending, pulling, and pushing.
- Use handheld electric or pneumatic grinders/sanders at waist level and up to eye level as required.
- Maintain a clean work area and adhere to all safety regulations, wearing proper safety equipment.
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Provide training to others as necessary.
- Perform other general labor duties as required.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Knowledge of sheet metal finishing techniques.
- Understanding of different sanding and grinding media and their proper use.
- Experience using hand tools and power tools, including sanders, grinders, and belt sanders.
- Proficiency in working with various types of metals such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Experience finishing thin or light gauge sheet metal in preparation for painting or powder coating.
