Microbiology Laboratory Supervisor

Salary:  
$65k-70k

Overview:
In this role, you'll be responsible for managing daily operations and supervising microbiology staff to ensure timely and accurate sample analyses, maintaining quality standards, troubleshooting equipment, and ensuring regulatory compliance. You'll also train and evaluate staff, address quality issues swiftly, and act as a liaison between the laboratory and clients, all while staying current on industry trends and ensuring a safe working environment.

Schedule: 
Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm during off season (May-September)
Tuesday-Saturday 8am to 5pm during on season (October-April)
 
Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing daily operations of the microbiology department, including scheduling and supervising staff to ensure accurate analyses and data interpretation.
  • Exercise authority to execute work stoppage during quality issues, and collaborate with supervisors to resume operations safely.
  • Implement and follow quality measures and regulatory standards in all laboratory tasks, while promoting the company's image through ethical practices.
  • Perform microbiological testing, troubleshoot and conduct minor repairs on equipment, and coordinate major repairs to maintain equipment in good condition.
  • Maintain accurate records, review and evaluate technical data for compliance with SOPs, and investigate non-conformances to implement corrective actions.
  • Train, evaluate, and manage laboratory staff, participate in hiring decisions, and ensure readiness in responding to client and staff needs while adhering to health and safety regulations.
Qualifications:
  • BS in Microbiology or related field with 2-3 years of laboratory experience OR HSD with 5-7 years of laboratory experience.
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Flexibility to work OT, especially during the on season.
