Quality Control Inspector (2nd Shift)
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Schedule: 2nd Shift 4:00PM-3:00AM M-F
Job Type: Full-time, Direct Placement
Compensation: $20+
Expected Hours: 40 – 55 hours per week


Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Quality Control Inspector for our 2nd shift operations. This role involves training initially on the 1st shift (5 am to 4 pm, Mon - Fri) before transitioning. As a key player in our quality assurance process, you will ensure materials and components meet our stringent standards prior to shipment.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Execute in-process inspections as outlined by project specifications and applicable codes.
  • Conduct final inspections under the Inspection Sampling Plan, post-fabrication, welding, and coating, but pre-shipment.
  • Validate prior in-process inspections for designated pieces.
  • Review materials against shop drawings, assessing size, burn quality, weld appearance, straightness, surface preparation, coating specifics, identification, and conformity with standards.
  • Document findings on Set 2 drawings.
  • Address nonconformance issues following the Control of Nonconforming Product procedure.
  • Conduct bolting assembly tests using Skidmore equipment and record outcomes.
  • Report under the supervision of the Quality Assurance Manager or assigned delegate.??????
  Qualifications:
  • General QC Inspector: Minimum of one-year experience in structural steel fabrication or a similar setting.
  • Final Inspector: Minimum of two-year experience in the aforementioned environments.
  • Proficiency in shop fabrication processes and inspection methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret shop drawings, ensuring materials align with specifications and codes.
  • For weld inspections: Understanding of welding symbols, procedures, and ability to conduct visual inspections per AWS D1.1.
  • For bolt inspections: Familiarity with ASTM A325/A490 bolt standards.
  • For surface/coating inspections: Expertise in structural steel cleaning, surface preparation, and measuring coating thicknesses.
  • Knowledge of company work instructions and Quality Procedures.
  • A seasoned structural steel fabricator can be trained into this role.
Physical Demands:
The role requires physical dexterity, with tasks involving standing, walking, and manual handling. Employees must be capable of lifting and transporting up to 100 pounds, with assistance, and possess corrected vision to 20/20.

Work Environment:
Employees will navigate environments with potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and extreme temperatures. The setting may be loud, and occasional outdoor weather conditions are expected.
