Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking a Research Assistant II near Cleveland, OH.

Contract role (~6-9 months) 
Shift
: Part Time 20 hours from 3pm – 7pm Monday – Friday
Pay: Based on experience

Position Objective
Under general supervision, the Research Assistant II will support the smooth and professional operation of the Cytometry & Microscopy Shared Resource (SR). The role involves assisting users with cytometric and microscopic data acquisition, data analysis, cell sorting services, and executing experiments under supervision when full-service support is requested. The Research Assistant II is also responsible for maintaining core instruments in good operating order, following manufacturer specifications.

Essential Functions

  1. Plan and execute research projects according to general plans, providing technical expertise on instrument operation to users for cell sorting and data acquisition. 
  2. Conduct experiments and collaborate with users to process, stain, execute, and analyze projects that support research manuscripts and grant applications. 
  3. Assist in developing and refining techniques, procedures, and methods to improve data acquisition accuracy and efficiency for users.
  4. Collect and analyze quality control, maintenance, and performance test data for cytometers, cell sorters, and related instruments. Validate instrument usage time prior to invoicing and process data for users as needed. 
  5. Oversee inventory management, including monitoring instrument schedules and communications.
  6. Train new staff and users on instrument operation and protocol development; coordinate and facilitate service contracts. 
  7. Maintain consumable inventory, order supplies, and prepare necessary reagents. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 1–3 years of related experience, or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 2–4 years of related experience.

  2. Capability to perform essential functions listed above.

  5. Effective organizational skills; ability to multitask, prioritize, and pay attention to detail.
  6. Willingness and capacity to learn rapidly and work with decreasing supervision.
  7. Strong team collaboration abilities.
  8. Dependable work ethic and consistent attendance.
  9. Analytical skills for troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  10. Adaptability to a fast-paced, changing environment and shifting priorities.
  11. Initiative for timely completion and follow-up of assigned tasks.
  12. Advanced IT skills and experience with complex software.
  13. Ability to interpret instructions and follow established guidelines.
  14. Proficiency in operating basic and complex laboratory equipment.
  15. Technical competence with Microsoft Office and other software programs or databases.
  16. Ability to learn and adhere to all safety procedures related to bloodborne pathogens and chemicals.
Working Conditions
  • General laboratory environment with possible exposure to hazards including biological materials, chemicals, radiation, and lasers.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment (gloves, coat, eyewear) at all times.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
