Experienced Shipping & Receiving/Material Handler needed for Direct Hire opportunity in Canastota, NY!

Title: Shipping & Receiving/Materials Handler Direct Hire
Pay Rate: $17 - $19 per hour
Location: Canastota, NY
Hours:

  • Full-time
  • Regular hours: Monday-Thursday, 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Overtime required as needed

Job Summary:
The Shipping and Receiving Materials Handler is responsible for shipping, receiving, delivering, and maintaining inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment. This position involves physical labor, including lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. The role also requires maintaining accurate inventory records, operating material handling equipment, and providing excellent customer service.
Key Duties:
  • Shipping and Receiving:
    • Receive, unload, and inspect freight, including large pipes (20 and 40 ft lengths).
    • Verify quantities, quality, and match items with purchase orders.
    • Package, wrap, and ship supplies; deliver and retrieve supplies to/from work or storage areas.
    • Stock shelves, tag and issue supplies, and rotate inventory.
  • Inventory Maintenance and Clerical:
    • Participate in physical inventories and maintain inventory records.
    • Use a computer to enter, access, and update information.
    • Handle damage claims and provide customer service via phone.
  • Other Duties:
    • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Skills Needed:
  • Strong math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts).
  • Experience with inventory control and record-keeping.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds and stand/walk for extended periods.

Work Environment:
  • Warehouse and supply yard.
  • Dusty and dirty conditions.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Requires physical activity, including lifting and moving heavy objects.

Requirements:
  • Experience:
    • Handling, storing, and shipping materials or supplies.
    • Operating material handling equipment.
    • Using a computer for inventory management.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
    • Must be able to stand and walk continuously for long shifts.
    • Ability to work in various environmental conditions (dust, dirt, etc.).
  • Other:
    • Valid driver's license required.
    • Willingness to be trained on the operation of power and hand tools.
    • Ability to work in a team and follow safety protocols.
