Title: Test Engineer
Location: Memphis, TN
Job Type: Contract to Hire – 6+ Months (Full Benefits/PTO Included)
Pay Rate: $35-$38/HR
SUMMARY
This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining procedures, hardware, and software used for electronic circuit board testing in a production environment, with limited oversight. You will collaborate on cross-functional teams handling projects for various customer groups.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review circuit board layouts to ensure they meet testability needs.
- Generate and analyze test data, creating reports and offering documentation and recommendations.
- Offer assistance to manufacturing teams regarding failure analysis, troubleshooting testers, minimizing sporadic failures, and reducing equipment downtime.
- Design, guide, and supervise engineering and technical staff in constructing test control devices and testing apparatus.
- Prepare proposals for testing approaches and documentation, from product design through initial manufacturing.
- Regularly assess test equipment designs, review test data, and address RMA concerns in collaboration with customers.
- Oversee and coordinate engineering tasks related to developing, sourcing, installing, and adjusting instruments, equipment, and control systems for testing and recording data.
- Establish the environments, sequences, and phases for conducting tests.
- Manage operational, functional, and performance aspects across all phases of testing.
- Carry out moderately complex engineering testing assignments on both standard and custom devices.
- Develop or utilize computer hardware and software to perform machinery and equipment tests.
- Evaluate and interpret test results, creating technical reports for use by management and engineering teams.
- Introduce and support semi-routine technique development and maintenance, ensuring compliance with established guidelines such as ISO and QS standards.
- Provide instruction to production testing personnel as new procedures are rolled out.
- Follow all safety and health policies and practices connected to this role and comply with supervisor directions.
- Adhere to established organizational security policies and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- 2+ years of applied electrical engineering experience, ideally within a manufacturing-focused setting.
- Proficiency in electronics and hardware testing and repair.
- Familiarity with switch gear component testing and troubleshooting is a plus.
- Strong ability to interpret schematics.
- Experience contributing to DOE development and data collection for resolving persistent failure issues.
- Prior leadership or supervisory exposure is preferred.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Linux, Python, and similar.
- Capable of understanding and adjusting test scripts as required.
- Skillful in solving unpredictable failures through investigative review of test logs, software, physical measurements, or visual checks; able to define, implement, and carry out tester preventative maintenance.
