Tool and Die Maker

Location: Rockland, MA
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule:

  • Normal Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

  • Summer Hours:
    • Monday–Thursday, 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM
    • Friday, 6:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Compensation: Pay range is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Tool and Die Maker to build, repair, and maintain dies, molds, fixtures, and assembly machines. This role also supports engineering in the development of prototypes and new parts. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Plan, construct, modify, and repair a wide range of tools including progressive dies, compound dies, blanking and forming dies, jigs, and assembly machines.

  • Perform complex machining operations with close tolerance fits; complete detailed bench work such as fitting, grinding, lapping, and adjusting for precision.

  • Conduct tool tryouts and troubleshoot any operational issues or material defects.

  • Maintain detailed records of die, fixture, and equipment maintenance and repairs.

  • Collaborate with engineering on prototype parts, including fabrication and design refinement.

  • Inspect and verify the quality of new parts before releasing them to production.

  • Work from verbal instructions, sketches, or complex prints to fabricate tools and fixtures.

  • Support colleagues with tool and die-related questions or issues.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Collaborate with suppliers on tool repairs and new tool design specifications.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate a variety of shop equipment as needed.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Technical training equivalent to two years of college or trade school.

  • Minimum of five years of tool and die experience.

  • Proficient in operating Bridgeport milling machines, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, and J&S wheel dressers for form grinding.

  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring tools such as micrometers, disc and anvil mics, dial calipers, telescoping gauges, gauge pins, blocks, and comparators.

Training Requirements:
  • General safety procedures

  • Quality system awareness

  • Hazardous waste handling and control

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and lift up to 60 lbs.

Work Environment:
  • Combination of manufacturing and office environments

  • Regular exposure to noise, dust, temperature variations, and odors
