Now Hiring: Tool Maker A
Location: Franklin Park, IL
Pay Rate: $35 per hour
Shift: 1st  Shift – 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday


Overview:
Kelly Services is excited to partner with a local client in seeking a talented Tool Maker A in Franklin Park, IL. This direct hire position offers a competitive salary and the opportunity to thrive in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Job Purpose:
The Tool Maker A will be responsible for planning, constructing, altering, and repairing a diverse range of tools, jigs, prototypes, special parts, and fixtures. This role requires proficiency in complex machine operations using both manual and CNC machine tools. Work will involve interpreting prints, sketches, and computer-aided manufacturing software.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and layout job assignments, determining the sequence of machining operations while calculating shrinkage and expansion allowances.
  • Execute machine operations that require unique and complex setups to maintain precise tolerances, including heat treating, drawing, tempering, and various assembly techniques.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues and make recommendations for modifications and process improvements.
  • Set up, program, and operate EDM equipment along with various complex CNC machines.
  • Report design errors, mark changes on drawings, and communicate with the Engineering Department.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior tool and die makers.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Department and production teams to refine tooling and prototypes as necessary.
  • Develop engineering models based on sketches and instructions, implementing design modifications as needed.
  • Utilize a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, precision measuring instruments, video microscopes, optical comparators, heat treating furnaces, and hand tools.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in manual machining
  • Proficient in using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and optical comparators
  • Experienced with manual lathes, including turning, boring, and single-point threading
  • Skilled in manual milling, including facing, boring, drilling, and tapping
  • Competent in blueprint reading, basic trigonometry, and fundamental math skills
