POSITION SUMMARY

The Batcher reports to the Production Supervisor and is based out of our Boardman, OH location. This individual is responsible for processing all recipes in a timely and accurate fashion to support the batching and closure process. This includes evaluating ingredients, preparing cook batches, following sanitation procedures, and performing quality testing to ensure adherence to Lassonde's food safety and product standards. The ability to read recipes, manage batch temperatures, and follow HACCP and GMP protocols is critical.

 


Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Inspect produce for freshness and conduct taste testing as needed
  • Operate batching equipment (e.g., touchscreens, PH meters, Boswick tools)
  • Read and follow recipes, providing feedback when applicable
  • Work with ingredient runners and R&D to support batching needs
  • Understand ingredient impact on flavor, and adjust as needed for quality
  • Maintain and sanitize batching equipment, kettles, and piping systems
  • Conduct visual equipment checks and notify supervisor of any issues
  • Maintain traceability of all ingredients added to batches
  • Perform food safety checks including proper heating for acidified products
  • Test finished batches for viscosity, taste, pH, and color, and adjust meet standards
  • Accurately convert and measure ingredients (grams, ounces, pounds, etc.)
  • Lift up to 65 lbs. and push/pull up to 500 lbs. in totes
  • Follow all SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA, and preventative control procedures
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Basic math, reading, and writing skills
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and food measurement conversions
  • Manual dexterity and physical ability to lift/push ingredients and materials
  • Must have excellent time management skills

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with IQF produce or culinary/batch processing
  • Understanding of ingredient interactions and flavor development
  • Familiarity with R&D batching support

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a production setting.

 

FREQUENT: Ability to talk and hear; ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend and/or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 50 pounds; use of hands and fingers to operate machinery/equipment and all manual and electronic equipment in area of responsibility.  Exposure to wet and humid conditions and fluctuations in ambient temperature (seasonal).

 

OCCASIONAL: Squatting, kneeling, ability to reach above and at shoulder height. Ability to wear a dust mask, and perform Confined Entry using LOTO program.  Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals.

 

VISION: Ability to use close and distance vision, as well as color and peripheral vision with or without correction.  Must be able to visually detect obstacles and potential dangers in a fast-paced production environment involving high speed equipment and powered industrial lift equipment.

 

HEARING: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.  Exposure to noise levels from pumps, machinery, forklift traffic, bottle lines and exhaust fans.
