Job SummaryThe Director of Graduate Medical Education (GME) Operations provides senior-level leadership and strategic oversight of all operational aspects of Lexington Medical Center's GME programs. This position ensures the effective integration of GME within the broader healthcare delivery system, aligning educational goals with clinical operations, financial performance, and compliance with institutional, state, and national accreditation requirements. The Director of GME Operations partners closely with the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), Program Directors, and network leadership to lead the infrastructure, staffing, systems, and financial sustainability required to support high-quality residency and fellowship programs.
Minimum QualificationsMinimum Education: Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Education, Business, or a related field.
Minimum Years of Experience: 5 years of progressive leadership experience in graduate medical education, health system management, or academic affairs.
Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Active TAGME certification or achievement of certification within 2 years of hire into position.
Required Training: None.
- Serve as the senior operational leader for GME, responsible for translating academic and regulatory requirements to ensure a collaborative environment between service line leadership and program leadership to integrate GME into the broader health system's strategic plan and workforce development pipeline.
- Develop and implement scalable systems, policies, and processes to support new and existing programs in alignment with ACGME, CMS, and institutional expectations.
- Oversee the operational infrastructure supporting all residency and fellowship programs, including but not limited to, faculty and resident contracting, onboarding, scheduling, HR coordination, space planning, call coverage, and rotation logistics.
- Plans and manages resident recruitment activities to include the applicant screening process, organization of interview materials and schedules, facilitating interview logistics, preparing materials for the rank order process, and certifying the rank order list.
- Collaborate closely with the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) to lead institutional GME functions such as ACGME accreditation readiness, site visit planning, Annual Program Evaluations (APE), and the Annual Institutional Review (AIR).
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting in ERAS, NRMP, WebADS, MedHub (or equivalent), and institutional data systems.
- Oversee GME program budget planning, including CMS cost reporting, resident salaries, reimbursements, and educational allowances.
- Maintain annual review process of all external arrangements associated with GME program
- Analyze and present performance data to recommend process improvements, resource optimization, and innovative models of care delivery to continuously improve workflows to support integration of resident and fellow learners.
- Build and lead a high-performing team of program managers and support staff that operationalize all GME activities.
- Advocate for a positive, inclusive, and learner-centered GME environment that supports resident and faculty well-being, academic integrity, and equitable opportunities.
- Performs all other duties as assigned or as necessary for the success of GME.
