Job Summary

Manages construction projects and limited construction operations for Lexington Medical Center for both self-performed and third party contractor led projects. Oversees and manages design teams, project approvals, execution strategy, scheduling, construction management and end user move in and close out for projects assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: 2 year Business or Technical related degree
Minimum Years of Experience: 7 years of experience working for or with a General Contractor in a leadership role as a Construction Manager or Assistant Manager;

5 years of experience in completing commercial, medical related projects such as acute care facilities, surgery centers, urgent care centers, multi-tenant medical office buildings and physician practices. (can be concurrent with experience above)   
Substitutable Education & Experience: 4 year college degree in a business or technical related major with 5 years of experience in completing commercial, medical related projects such as acute care facilities, surgery centers, urgent care centers, multi-tenant medical office buildings and physician practices.
Required Certifications/Licensure: None.
Required Training: Experience supervising skilled and unskilled labor required. 

Essential Functions
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee work by contracted construction firms on projects in the health district.
  • Negotiate contracts with contractors, subcontractors and vendors.
  • Present to Administration and/or the Board as needed.
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee work by the LMC In house construction crew.
  • Ensure all construction work whether contracted or in house meet Infection Control Measures and Interim Life Safety Measures.
  • Prepare and submit estimates for projects as required.
  • Meet with design professionals as needed in order to plan and oversee projects.
  • Short and long range planning for contractor, in house projects and capital budget items.
  • Review drawings, specifications and submittals to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure accepted safety and infection control requirements are adhered to on all contracted or in house projects. 
  • Work with users to minimize interruptions to department operations that may be caused by construction projects.  Act as the point of contact for the Engineering Department on these matters.
  • Work with director on developing and maintaining a master project schedule for use by all departments and Administration for planning purposes.
  • Ensure that work is performed in a professional, timely, and in an economical manner.
  • To understand and be aware of all new technology that might better serve the hospital's short and long range plans.
  • Provides input on which service contracts to take over and which ones to keep in force.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • To ensure compliance with all DHEC, IBC, IFC, NFPA, DNV and other regulatory agency codes on all designs and projects.
  • To work with other departments to improve hospital wide systems.
  • To ensure that Service Expectations are a part of department's functions and operation.
  • Ensure hospital and department policies are followed and current.
  • To offer in-service training where applicable.
  • To keep abreast of new technology by going to seminars, taking courses, and reading necessary literature.
  • To give technical assistance and training to all personnel within the department.
  • Effectively recruits, retains, directs and mentors the construction.
  • Orients, trains, coaches and counsels direct reports for development and success of the individual and the team.
  • Conducts staff evaluations and provides leadership, motivation and direction to staff, building teamwork and fostering team cohesion.
  • Accountable for team activities and allocates internal and external resources to accomplish goals.
  • Responsible for developing, monitoring and maintaining budget with comprehensive justification for requests.  Ability to provide supportive documentation for variations.
  • Responsible for developing and modifying policies and procedures to correspond with changes in practice.
  • Completes tasks within timeline and ensures deliverables for area of responsibility, escalating issues to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Maintenance of an optimistic, professional, career oriented demeanor (positive role model) as leader within your area at Lexington Medical Center.  Exemplifies excellent customer relations toward patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.  Holds themselves and subordinates accountable for conformity to Service Excellence and “House Rules”.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by authorized personnel as required in an emergency, e.g., fire or disaster.
