Title and Summary

Country Manager, Portugal Overview

Working within MasterCard's business group model, the Portugal Country Manager (CM) is responsible for the general management of the branch office in Portugal from a customer, employee and regulatory perspective and is accountable for the business proposition in the designated market.
The PORT Country Manager, as a leader in the business, has the accountability for the business objectives, as assigned by the business group to whom the leader reports. This is usually the sales organization/customer group.
He/She will define the country strategic direction, together with regional leadership; he/she contributes to the overall growth and success of the company through growth initiatives and implementation of the company strategy.

Role

Financial Objectives
• responsible for the profit and loss ("P+L") of all MasterCard's business in the respective country, accountable for financial compliance and maintenance of acceptable audit standards

MasterCard representative with customers, business partners, external relations
• Customer Relationship Management for all accounts operating in the market; the CM provides business direction to the national and regional accounts which report directly into him/her; the CM provides support to the Global Accounts operating in the country.
• Provides leadership for the tactical and strategic approach to market (customer marketing, marketing campaigns, channel development, public relations, media and press, company brand and image) for consistency in engagement, distribution and fulfillment locally.

Regulatory
• Accountable for MasterCard as a sales representative office operating in the country/ies; is the prime representative to local authorities and industry boards in line with the Corporate regulatory and public affairs strategy

Employee Relations/Management
• Responsible for all employees working in the market/country, providing business guidance to the employees of business groups and functions present in the sales rep office ("dotted line reporting")
• Responsible for communications locally in line with Corporate communications strategy and content
• Accountable for resource optimization (local operations) and for the health and safety regulations and matters such as legal reporting requirements, working with appropriate support functions

Country Operations
• Responsible for the workplace environment and related employee satisfaction
• Serves as an "advisory" for business leaders and remote management (together with HR and Finance) for business groups and functions operating in the country to ensure consistency of business objectives and operations
• Monitors overall employee performance against objectives and pursues corrective measures with the appropriate management, as required.
• Ensures appropriate deployment of company policies, procedures and processes in the local country office(s).
• Exercises sound financial management; implement and monitor internal controls in the country operations.
Experiences

• Experience and proven track record of successful matrix management.
• Good financial acumen, revenue management and P&L experience
• Strong in influencing, negotiation and executing/ managing sales strategies
• Strong track record in commercial and consumer card business with global experience (ideal)
• Outstanding communication skills from a written, verbal and presentation perspective. Inspiring leader.
• Solid experience of progressive sales and relationship management experience within the financial services or payments industry sectors.
• Fluent Portuguese/English/ideally a 3rd language.
• Education: Masters / Business School / MBA degree.
