Title and Summary

Director of Engineering - Network as a Service Overview

Network as a Service (NaaS) is an internally developed system designed to modernize Mastercard's network configuration and security policy management through automation. It plays a crucial role in our zero trust strategy and facilitates network micro-segmentation across our global data centers.

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead an exceptional team of software engineers who continuously evolve our system to meet the growing and changing needs of Mastercard.

Role

- Guide, coach and mentor a diverse engineering team.
- Cultivate a culture of innovation and creativity, challenging conventional practices to drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with Mastercard policies and procedures.
- Oversee architectural design and development of applications, services, and user interfaces, while maintaining and scaling existing systems.
- Adopt a hands-on approach to architecture and code development, ensuring the creation of high-quality, clean, and secure code.
- Develop product / technology roadmaps.
- Proactively identify and resolve potential issues before they arise bringing a safety first mindset.
- Stay informed about new technologies and offer technical guidance to your team.
- Set priorities, objectives, and drive delivery within the team while managing expectations with stakeholders.

All About You

- Degree or similar in IT / Computer Science.
- Lead from the front while knowing when to step back to allow individuals to shine.
- Continually recognizes and rewards individual contributions across the team.
- Fosters an engaging and fun atmosphere.
- History of leading hybrid teams (remote / in-person).
- Flexibility to function in various roles as required by the situation (coach / mentor / friend / project owner / engineer / architect).
- Ability to write high quality, secure, and clean code following SOLID design principles in multiple programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, C#, Java, JavaScript).
- Proven experience building distributed systems with an emphasis on scalability and reliability.
- Well versed in infrastructure as code and related tooling (e.g., Terraform, Chef, Ansible, etc.).
- Experience with modern approaches to automated software testing.
- Experience with CI/CD topics and development methodologies (e.g., pipelines, pull requests, git, command line, etc.).
- Understanding of network concepts such as load balancing, firewalls, and protocols. In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
