Title and Summary

Manager, Software Engineering Overview

This role is part of the Software Engineering Group within the Mastercard Payment Gateway Services division in Dublin, leading a scrum team and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders across the globe.

As a manager, you'll oversee a team within the payment gateway space. You will lead the team driving the modernization of onboarding and back-office systems. You oversee delivery of secure, compliant, and scalable solutions, remove technical blockers, and ensure a smooth merchant experience. You collaborate with product and other cross functional teams while mentoring engineers, guiding the team through modernization journey to achieve reliability, efficiency, and future-ready platform.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of software engineers, ensuring delivery of high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions aligned with business objectives.
• Drive execution across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with timelines, priorities, and organizational goals.
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture, and Operations teams to translate business needs into technical deliverables.
• Provide strategic direction for system design, development, and integration using modern Java and Spring technologies.
• Oversee the full software development life cycle, ensuring adherence to MasterCard standards, processes, and compliance requirements.
• Promote engineering best practices, including code quality, security, testing, and documentation.
• Manage performance, career growth, and hiring of software engineers, fostering a high-performance and inclusive team culture.
• Coordinate with offshore and distributed teams to ensure effective collaboration and delivery consistency.
• Evaluate and recommend technologies and methodologies that enhance delivery efficiency and product quality.
• Ensure proactive problem management, incident resolution, and continuous improvement in system reliability and performance.

All About You:

• Proven experience managing software engineering teams delivering enterprise-scale applications.
• Strong background in Java, Spring Framework, React and Node JS, with the ability to provide technical direction when needed.
• Strong API Development experience with RESTful API design
security best practices.
• Strong experience in Cloud platform - PCF, Azure, and AWS
• Experience in Oracle and PostgreSQL databases
• Solid knowledge of vulnerability management, authentication mechanisms, and regulatory compliance.
• Solid understanding of software engineering methodologies, agile practices, and DevOps principles.
• Demonstrated success in people management, performance development, and leading distributed teams.
• Experience in delivering secure, high-availability solutions in financial services is preferred.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with the ability to influence and drive outcomes.
• High-energy, proactive, and results-driven, with a passion for quality and continuous improvement.
