Job Overview
At Mastercard, Reactive Systems Architecture empowers Application Teams to concentrate on business functionality, while the underlying framework and infrastructure handle non-functional requirements. In our payment systems, the business logic is message-driven—financial messages trigger event-based processing.
Our platform ensures core non-functional capabilities, such as:
• Security and traffic management
• Infrastructure-agnostic deployment
• Scalability, resiliency, and high availability
• Reliable and consistent message delivery
• Delivery auditing and failure recovery
• Stateful stream processing and strong consistency
• Observability, root cause detection, and recovery
• Application lifecycle support and testing in live/silent modes
The Role: What You'll Do
As a Manager, Software Engineering focused on event-driven distributed systems, you will:
•Design and develop scalable, resilient systems using reactive, event-driven architectures
•Write, review, and enhance production-grade code with best development practices
•Lead prioritization decisions by collaborating with product stakeholders
•Automate and streamline software delivery pipelines and development processes
•Conduct Proof of Concepts (POCs) to evaluate and introduce new technologies
•Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior developers
•Own and resolve complex, cross-service dependencies
•Define and implement procedures and service-level solutions that meet evolving business needs
•Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to team prioritization and planning
•Build and foster partnerships across cross-functional teams and business units
About You: What You Bring
Technical Expertise
•Proficiency in Java or similar OOP languages; solid grasp of SOLID principles and 12-Factor App methodology
•Hands-on experience building and operating distributed systems
•Familiarity with secure coding practices and vulnerability management frameworks (e.g., OWASP, CWE, SEI CERT)
•Experience with event streaming platforms like Kafka or NATS is a strong plus
•Knowledge of CI/CD tools, containers, and infrastructure automation
•Experience with cloud-native architectures and infrastructure-as-code
Development Practices
•Skilled in TDD and BDD methodologies for efficient, collaborative development
•Familiarity with advanced design patterns (e.g., MVC, API Gateway, Dependency Injection, Intercepting Filter)
•Able to estimate and design for non-functional requirements such as security, compliance, and performance
•Strong debugging skills including analysis of logs, thread dumps, and memory issues
Development Practices
•Skilled in TDD and BDD methodologies for efficient, collaborative development
•Familiarity with advanced design patterns (e.g., MVC, API Gateway, Dependency Injection, Intercepting Filter)
•Able to estimate and design for non-functional requirements such as security, compliance, and performance
