Ethoca, a Mastercard company, is a global collaboration-based technology services provider that connects card issuers and merchants to combat fraud, enhance customer experience, and prevent disputes.

To support our continued growth and success, we are seeking a talented Principle Software Engineering to join the Ethoca team. In this role you will be part of a highly agile team building exciting and innovative products delivered at scale to global markets.

Role
The Principal Software Engineer is a hands-on technology leader responsible for driving complex enterprise-wide initiatives. This role involves spending a significant amount of time coding while also coaching and mentoring a team of engineers. The architect will work closely with business and product owners to design and deliver innovative services, improve customer experience, and ensure architectural integrity. Key responsibilities include leading the architectural design, resolving technical issues, participating in agile processes, and engaging in organization-wide initiatives to enhance software engineering craftsmanship. The ideal candidate is a recognized authority in technology, capable of balancing trade-offs, and enjoys exploring new technologies and solutions.

- Engage in complex enterprise-wide initiatives across multiple services/programs and drive resolutions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements, system integrations, and product roadmaps.
- Lead the architectural design, including dependent services, service interactions, and policies.
- Improve the customer experience of a comprehensive set of services/applications sold as products or bundled services.
- Contribute and lead Guild initiatives by mentoring Engineers at all levels to enhance Software Engineering skills.
- Simplify and optimize the cost/benefit of a function/service/architecture strategy.
- Utilize judgment and experience to balance trade-offs between competing priorities.
- Undertake assignments across different areas of Software Engineering beyond comfort zone.
- Participate in organization-wide public speaking engagements and publish white papers and blogs on relevant and emerging technical topics.
- Consult across teams and organizational lines to identify synergies and reuse opportunities.
- Attend Principal review architecture meetings and address enterprise-wide challenges and regulatory requirements.
- Perform technical interviews to assess engineering candidates.
- Identify and highlight siloed behaviors within the organization and teams.
- Need to work with global team and available in different time zones (US, Canada, Dublin, India).

All About You
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering.
- 12+ years of full stack software development experience, with 6+ years in hands-on senior engineering technical leadership roles, providing architecture and implementation guidance across engineering teams.
- Proven experience as a software architect with a focus on SaaS products, preferably in the financial sector.
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Hands on experience with API development, integration patterns, and secure data exchange protocols.
- Background in DevSecOps practices and security-first architectures.
- Experience in implementing identity management and access control systems for enterprise applications.
- Knowledge of Messaging technologies (e.g. Apache Kafka), high volume batch processing technologies (e.g. Apache Spark) a plus.
- Expert knowledge of advanced Java, Spring Framework, Persistence technologies, Performance tools, and Testing frameworks.
- Experience designing, developing, and deploying Java webservices using a mix of relational and non-relational persistence stores.
- In depth knowledge of JavaScript, Node.js, Express, React.js, and Angular.js.
- Expert knowledge of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices.
- Experience in implementing complex technology solutions for enterprises and making it available for general use within the corporate.
- Sound knowledge of cryptography functions incl PKI infrastructure, hashing and encryption
- Familiar with building reporting solutions using PowerBI, Tableau, etc.
- Have strong data analytics knowledge, experience with ETL, Data Modelling & Pattern analysis using ML is a bonus

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.
