General Summary of Position
Oversees the operation of the Control Room - Boiler Plant and associated equipment - ensuring the efficient operation and security of the Hospital's operating systems during assigned shift. May be required to lead in or assists with regular maintenance or emergency repairs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees/monitors the operation of the Control Room during assigned shift. Ensures the Hospital's systems are operating at best possible performance levels. Answers emergency elevator calls Medical Air Alarms off hours help desk calls etc. Distributes master keys as appropriate. May also oversee the operations of the Chiller Plant.
- Directs junior engineers in the operation and maintenance of the Control Room Boiler Room Chiller Plant etc. as appropriate.
- Observes meters gauges and other measuring devices determining/monitoring the operating conditions of the equipment and systems and makes (e.g. the regulation of flow of water current fuel product and other mediums in accordance with demand requirements output capacity operating efficiency and safety).
- Maintains the Boiler Room Log. Ensures that the logs and regular readings of meters gauges and other measuring devices are recorded on the Daily Power Log and other appropriate logs/computer systems. Changes templates/paper reading recordings.
- Performs maintenance/repairs on equipment as appropriate (e.g. packing valves changing bearing etc.) during shift reporting larger/ more complicated needs/engineering plant malfunctions to the Foreman for action by the maintenance crew.
- Assists the Facilities Engineer in design modifications/working with contractors on improvements to the equipment and plant.
- Assists the maintenance/repair crew with scheduled and emergency repairs to the boilers generators chillers and related Facilities Management equipment as requested. Issues tools to maintenance/repair crew and ensures tools are returned to the tool room.
- Ensures that the Boiler Room and assigned areas are operating within all applicable Hospital federal and local governing codes standards and regulations including but not limited to: OSHA The Joint Commission and NFPA.
- Learns and remains current with the latest applicable federal and local governing codes standards and regulations regarding fire safety plumbing electrical and plant operations including but not limited to: OSHA NFPA JCAHO ASHRAE ANSI DCRA D.C. Fire & Safety Codes and the Hospital's fire and safety practices.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required or
- Trade/vocational school graduate or equivalent with courses in chemistry physics and/or mathematics and such training as to be able to read: layout diagrams blueprints mechanical drawings work sketches etc. required
Experience
- 3-4 years as a Power Plant Engineer required
Licenses and Certifications
- Current D.C. First Class Operating License required
- CFC Refrigeration Certification required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity with the latest applicable codes standards and regulations including but not limited to: OSHA NFPA The Joint Commission and Fire and Life Safety practices.
This position has a hiring range of
USD $34.54 - USD $65.34 /Hr.
