Unit Highlights
A professional care provider, who assumes responsibility and accountability for the vascular access needs of patients, provides care through the continued utilization of the nursing process in collaboration with other health care team members, oversees the care of central lines for CLABSI prevention, and inserts PICCs, Midlines, and other peripheral vascular access devices as appropriate for patient needs.

Primary Duties:

  • Reviews order for appropriateness, obtains consent, and inserts PICCs and MLs with ultrasound guidance, using Modified Seldinger Technique and maximum sterile barrier precautions
  • Assesses and performs routine care and maintenance for all central lines in accordance with INS standards, including troubleshooting malfunctioning central lines and advocating for removal of central lines as clinically indicated
  • Advocates for appropriate vascular access device based on patient clinical needs
  • Supports staff nurses with troubleshooting and insertion of short peripheral catheters with and without ultrasound guidance for patients with poor vasculature
  • Collaborates with physicians, staff nurses and techs, and other members of the patient care team, seeks clarification of unclear orders or plan of care
  • Accurately documents all patient care in EMR and updates plan of care
  • Educates patients, family members, and staff on care and maintenance of vascular access device and infection prevention
  • Administration of tPA for catheter clearance
  • Uses basic computer skills to input and track data
  • Adheres to department policies, attends department meetings, and contributes to the achievement of department and hospital goals
  • Implements and monitors compliance of CLABSI prevention measures
  • Reviews order for appropriateness, and inserts nasogastric feeding tubes using Cortrak guidance

Qualifications

  • ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • 1-2 years of vascular access experience, hospital preferred. PICC insertion skills
  • Active MD RN License or Active Compact State RN and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required (AHA or American Red Cross).  Specialty certification VA-BC or CRNI preferred.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $36.00 - USD $54.97 /Hr.
