Description

The Administrative Fellow is a one-year, full time position for a recent graduate or future graduate awaiting completion of one year fellowship graduation requirement of a Master's program or other advanced degree programs related to healthcare administration. Under direct supervision of various senior level management staff, the Administrative Fellow will gain comprehensive and practical experience while becoming acquainted with the overall administration of the Washington Hospital Center by carrying out special assignments and assisting in a variety of administrative duties. The Administrative Fellow will provide a full range of management services and work closely with hospital management and other key personnel in the formulation and completion of these projects.
Education

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), or Health Services Administration (MHSA), or Public Health (MPH), or Business Administration (MBA) from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) or the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) required or
  • Awaiting completion of one year fellowship graduation requirement
Experience
  • Less than 1 year of previous job experience required
  • Rotates in various departments of the Washington Hospital Center to acquire familiarity with departmental organization, administrative relationships, and problems.
  • Studies special problems and with the assistance of the department head develops solutions based on facts obtained and analyzed.
  • Undertakes special assignments under direct supervision of responsible management staff, relating to costs, standard clerical procedures, statistical studies, work simplifications, etc.
  • Studies policies establishing hospital committees.
  • Regularly attends and participates in major committees and visits other committees as appropriate.
  • Participates in the budget development of certain administrative departments.
  • Participates in administrative rounds.
  • Participates in preparation for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) survey.
  • Provides administrative support for Executive Staff and Department Head meetings.
  • Completes annual surveys and licensure applications including, but not limited to, the Association of American Medical Colleges' (AAMC) Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH) survey, American Hospital Association (AHA) survey, and the Department of Health (DOH) licensure application.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness table-top drills and Hospital Disaster Life Support (HDLS) training.
