General Summary of Position
This associate works directly with the Hospital Executive Team to include the president, chief nursing officer, chief medical officer, or chief operating officer, and others. Designs, develops, and oversees a comprehensive strategic communications program for internal audiences (associates, nurses, medical staff, and patients, depending on assignment) which support the organization's vision, mission, values, and the operating and strategic plan/plan on a page. Provides counsel to the Hospital Executive Team on issues related to internal communications and serves as consultant to the Hospital Executive Team, Senior Leadership, and other areas/departments of the Hospital.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops an annual internal communications plan that meets the internal communication objectives of the strategic and operating plans/plan on a page for the entity.
  • Serves as a strategic communications consultant to the Hospital Executive Team and senior leadership, providing advice and counsel on issues related to internal audiences. Advises the Hospital Executive Team's participation in employee communications and facilitates such interaction.
  • Serves as the communication expert/consultant to other departments and on strategic committees. Coordinates organizational communication programs in conjunction with appropriate departments (e.g., Facilities, Protective Services, Human Resources). Partners with departments and committees to promote service behaviors and quality/patient safety initiatives through the development and oversight of strategic communications.
  • Strategically develops and implements multifaceted internal communications initiatives to reach specific internal stakeholders, serving as liaison to all departments involved, setting and meeting deadlines, and achieving goals.
  • Strategizes and implements a wide range of communications and resources including, but not limited to, memos, website/intranet content, newsletter articles, email, presentations, webcasts, town hall meetings, and other communications for targeted internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with digital marketing and multiple system internal stakeholders to create strategies, implement communications, monitor and evaluate analytics of distributed communications in support of internal communication initiatives.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Implements and disseminates communications related to key entity, region and/or system initiatives, including tailoring communications from Operational Communications toolkits and other sources to meet the needs of targeted stakeholder populations within the entity or region. Develops and distributes communications materials for the administration and promotion of all system surveys (associate, physician, safety, etc.).
  • Partners with service line marketing leads and physician relations to support the development and implementation of communications that promote new providers and practices to maximize visibility internally.
  • Strategizes content and functionality for the associate intranet portal to support associate communication; oversees the creation and maintenance of internal communication updates to the site's homepage.
  • Strategizes, develops, and contributes relevant content to existing internal communication vehicles to build awareness, understanding and to ensure alignment in messaging within the entity and the system.
  • Provides internal communication support for associate events, management meetings, town hall meetings, wellness initiatives, and other events, as necessary.
  • Serves as internal (not professional) photographer at entity or regional events, as designated by a member of the Hospital Executive Team.
  • Monitors industry trends and research in fields of internal communications and technology and makes recommendations appropriately to support the internal communications program.
  • Reviews materials/programming for internal audiences developed by other hospital departments prior to dissemination.
  • Serves as internal communications expert/Public Information Officer when the command center opens for crisis and disaster events.
  • Supervises and manages the internal communications staff, if on staff.
  • Develops and monitors annual budgets for internal communications activities.
  • Actively participates in local committees and provides logistical support for any events or speakers. To include, but not limited to, EI&D, Wellness, Quality and Safety, and Workplace Violence.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree In Communications, Corporate Communications, Journalism, or other related field required
    • Master's degree In Communications, Corporate Communications, Journalism, or other related field preferred

    Experience

    • 8-10 years of progressively more responsible job related experience in strategic communications planning, publications management, event planning, employee recognition. required
    • Prior experience working directly with senior executive staff providing internal communications counsel required
    • 3-4 years performing the referenced responsibilities in a hospital/health care environment preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Accreditation in Public Relations - APR preferred


    This position has a hiring range of $98,652 - $175,190
