General Summary of Position
The Electro-Neurodiagnostic (END) Technician Trainee is given supervised, on-the-job training in performing END studies and testing. This testing includes routine and portable EEGs as ordered by physicians according to established protocols and national ASET & ACNS guidelines, respectively. At approved points in their training the technician may begin to perform these tests independently.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.

At end of training period (all duties below apply):

Demonstrates the ability to evaluate the patient to determine mental age, state of function, and comprehension level.

Demonstrates effective communication skills, both verbal and written (i.e. capture patient history, medications, etc. by using basic intake form).

Ability to initiate electrode application (supervised) by following a method that includes: measuring and marking the head following a modified 10/20 measurement, adjusting electrode placement for anatomical defects or anomalies, prepping patient's scalp prior to electrode application, applying electrodes with collodion and electrolyte system, verifying electrode impedances are balanced and below 5,000 Ohms.

Knowledge and awareness of proper working conditions of digital EEG equipment.

Ability to obtain, under supervision, a standard EEG that includes: patient physiologic bio-calibration, notation of patient position and activity, documentation of movement related artifacts.

Ability to measure physiologic events during sleep by applying respiratory monitors such as thoracic/abdominal effort sensors, electrocardiogram, electromyogram, and other custom placements for EEG electrodes.

Communicates appropriate information necessary to provide high quality patient care and maintain efficient work habits with physicians, patients, families, and other staff and caregivers: Gains interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communications needed to work with patients, laboratory allied health, physician staff, and other hospital/clinic staff members.

Provides a safe recording environment by; gaining knowledge of basic patient safety and workplace cleanliness, including OSHA and JC guidelines, gaining and maintaining CPR certification, ensuring hazardous materials are properly used and stored, keeping equipment clean and in operating condition, detecting instrument malfunctions and reporting the need for repairs.

Completes indirect activities including tasks that contribute to the financial performance of the patient care by working within the cooperative team model of care and taking initiative to offer assistance to other colleagues.

Demonstrates dedication to personal and professional growth by reviewing current literature and research of new findings and procedures in the END field; attending professional conferences and departmental/clinical in-services which enhance knowledge and program development per care site standards.

May participate in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

High School Diploma or GED required or
Associate's degree best if in a science related field preferred
One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience

Less than 1 year 6 months of direct patient care experience or equivalent required
One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

Licenses and Certifications

CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must be able to follow detailed instructions on all procedures. Able to establish good rapport with patients, public and the staff. Able to work with severely ill patients.

This position has a hiring range of $22.04 - $38.41
