General Summary of Position
As a strategic business partner this role supports the implementation of systemwide projects and initiatives from the Business Transformation Office while sharing best practices, reporting status, and ensuring consistent delivery of projects. Assists with strategic project support for significant portions of system-wide MedStar Business Transformation operations, working closely with senior leaders at sites and other operational units and functional areas. In doing so, establishes partnerships across the MedStar Health system, identifies critical human-capital issues facing the sites, and delivers project support. Collaborates with business unit leaders, to influence the overall success and effectiveness of the Business Transformation office initiatives and projects. Defines project objectives and oversees quality control throughout the project life cycle. . This role supervises the Business Transformation Implementation Specialist and reports to the Sr Director, Business Transformation.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Develops and recommends department operating budget and manages resources according to approved budget.
  • Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
  • Works directly with Executives, Business Transformation Office leadership, functional initiatives leads, and other stakeholders to drive initiatives forward
  • Communicates and distributes information to project stakeholders using different channels of communication to distribute information based on the audience. Manages project stakeholder expectations with support from MedStar subject matter experts, as needed. Reports accurate project information. Creates project management documents and presentations to support medium and large projects.
  • Provides project management support to ensure successful design / implementation of portfolio of initiatives.
  • Oversees the integrated master schedule and manage day-to-day coordination of all projects and programs including tasks, milestones, owners, and budgets. Leads status reporting and manages overall initiative progress. Ensures consistency in how projects are reported, managed, and delivered.
  • Oversees the Strategy Accelerator project management tool and works closely with the Transformation Tool Specialist to keep tool up to date with current initiative portfolio.
  • Serves as a point of contact for training and questions related to the Transformation Tool.
  • Provides high-level feedback on implementation plans; drive consistency in implementation planning across initiatives. Monitors project progress, identify potential risks and issues, and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
  • Incorporates sound change management strategies into project plans based on thorough stakeholder and organizational assessments. Leverages industry best practice change management methods and tools.
  • Mitigates risks and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Develops and leverages influential relationships at every level of the organization to promote change. Able to influence others based on an understanding of their position, a recognition of the business needs, and the ability to provide and present a sound, evidence-based rationale for change. Provides guidelines to individual functional areas for implementation plan execution.
  • Supports Finance team in defining and monitoring KPIs and performance metrics / report card across projects and risk mitigation for MedStar Health.
  • Partners with IT and any relevant external vendors to develop and manage project management tool.
  • Captures and shares best practices from across the industry. Establishes and implements best practices, ensuring compliance across all internal and 3rd party stakeholders.
  • Keeps Business Transformation Office VP and Senior Director informed of implementation progress.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Information Technology, project management or similar field required

    Experience

    • 3-4 years Experience working in healthcare setting required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)-PMI preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Strong time management skills and superior oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills, with ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, internal departments and external agencies.
    • Job requires the highest level of interpersonal effective communication and self-awareness.
    • Job requires ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and recommendations. Experience with conducting industry-specific benchmarking analyses (preferably in health care).
    • Computer skills are required to be efficient in managing data (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and email programs). Advance Microsoft Excel skills.
