General Summary of Position
The Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation nurse is responsible for evaluating and treating clients within their scope of practice, including intake, exercise, education, and counseling according to departmental policies and procedures with pulmonary/cardiac rehabilitation. The nurse must assess the effectiveness and responses to interventions and document according to established standards. The nurse must be able to quickly and effectively respond to medical emergencies in a clinic setting and may be required to assist with scheduling, clinic clerical tasks, and quality improvement monitoring.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Communicates patient's clinical information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format. Clearly and accurately documents pertinent information in the patient's medical record.
  • Completes timely initial and ongoing patient assessments, considering the physiological, psychosocial, spiritual, cultural, and developmental needs for patients and families. Based on the assessment of physical, emotional, bio-physical, and spiritual needs, provides direct patient care and evaluate outcomes. Incorporates the principles of patient-centered care.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Monitors patient medical conditions, intervenes using critical thinking and nursing skill, and reports patient changes to appropriate personnel. Demonstrates patient and family advocacy by providing for the emotional support of patient and families during the crisis of illness.
  • Identifies educational and health teaching needs of patients and families. Develops, implements, and evaluates health teaching programs to meet the identified needs.
  • In collaboration with the patient, family, and other members of the healthcare team, systematically develops, revises, and coordinates the patient's plan of care. Formulates nursing diagnosis as necessary. Evaluates the patient's response to treatment and progress toward identified goals and revises plan of care as appropriate. Facilitates collaboration among other health team members fostering effective communication with other disciplines. When necessary, provides environmental support to expedite timely patient admission or transfer.
  • In coordinating the delivery of patient care, delegates activities to unlicensed staff in accordance with system policies, principles of Patient-Centered Care, and the Maryland Nurse Practice Act.
  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment of caring for patient comfort measures during procedures. Identifies potential and actual patient safety issues and acts accordingly per hospital and unit policy and procedure.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred

    Experience

    • 3-4 years experience in a cardio/pulmonary rehab, acute care, critical care or emergency dept. nursing. required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the State of Maryland. required
    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
    • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
    • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 90 Days required


    This position has a hiring range of $34.98 - $62.52
