General Summary of Position
Provides professional nursing care for a disease specific subset of stroke patients as part of an essential component of Stroke Services. Navigation services are expected to provide individualized assistance to patients upon entering and being discharged from the health care system who have experienced an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. Serves as a resource for stroke patients and their families, physicians, and others serving in the role of educator, quality improvement champion, and consultant to patients and other key stakeholders. This is done in collaboration with the divisions of Neurology, Medicine, and Neurosurgery. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Medstar Health's along with the hospital entity's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- BSN required
Experience
- 3-4 years Professional clinical experience required and
- 1-2 years 2 years of recent experience in neurological care preferred and
Licenses and Certifications
- Current RN License required and
- Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support required and
- CNRN, SCRN or certification by a comparable board preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care; Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care; Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
This position has a hiring range of $87,318 - $157,289
