General Summary of Position
Directs the day-to-day administration of medical student education for assigned department. Provides leadership, oversight and strategic direction in collaboration with department and the Georgetown University School of Medicine (GUSOM) educational leadership to ensure department and GUSOM objectives are met.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directs, plans and develops the administrative components for medical student education ensuring seamless workflow and adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Serves at the principal administrative liaison between the department and GUSOM. Participates on committees, taskforces and ad-hoc work groups as required.
  • Manages principal collaborations and facilitates ongoing communication with cross-functional teams to achieve administrative goals and enhance interdepartmental coordination between affiliate clerkship, Acting Internship (AI) and elective sites.
  • Administers multiple medical student courses/rotations for the department, to include electives and visiting student rotations. Responsibilities include student orientation, assessment and communication.
  • Recruits faculty small group preceptors. Manages didactics, standardized patient sessions and online presentations for course directors, faculty, residents/fellows and students.
  • Directs submission of and reviews and accounts for student assignments, reflections, and quizzes posted on the Canvas Learning Management System (Canvas). Responsible for updating learning goals/objectives and recommending curriculum changes. Ensures the current curriculum for clerkship and all electives is maintained in Canvas.
  • Ensures that student assessments, faculty feedback and course evaluations are created through New Innovations in cooperation with course directors, internal team and the GUSOM. Assists faculty with compliance for timely submission of final grades.
  • Directs the administration of required National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) shelf exams for clerkship and LIC students. Secures additional proctors as needed.
  • Responsible for administrative oversight of visiting student opportunities to include updates to the annual course catalog, diversity scholarship applications/logistics, etc. in conjunction with the GUSOM.
  • Makes recommendations for annual department budget for medical student education and prepares budget for meetings/special sessions while maintaining fiscal responsibility and accountability.
  • Administers ongoing medical education programmatic priorities for the department, including but not limited to observerships, bootcamps, simulation activities and student interest groups.
  • Proficiently integrates technology into administration of clerkship and courses. Applications utilized include but are not limited to: Canvas, New Innovations, VSLO, Survey Monkey, Zoom and Teams.
  • Engages with relevant professional society for specialty. Collaboration with other UGME administrators nationally is expected, as is presence at relevant national meetings.
  • In collaboration with clerkship and course directors, ensures that Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) elements are met during student clinical experiences. Assists the GUSOM in the preparation of LCME accreditation materials as required.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree required

    Experience

    • 3-4 years Experience in an office environment preferably in an academic or healthcare environment. required
    • One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel, and Access, with particular emphasis as relates to spreadsheet software, data searches, etc.
    • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work with diverse groups.
    • Ability to produce reports/data in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Good planning and organizational skills.
    • Ability to establish priorities and ability to maintain confidentiality.


    This position has a hiring range of $80,995 - $152,027
