Job Summary
Position reports to the MedStar Health Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer (CIO). The Vice President (VP) provides leadership and management for all applications including administrative, revenue cycle, decision support and clinical, at MedStar Health (MedStar), and will be an integral part of the Information Services (IS) senior management team. The VP will manage integration and interoperability with systems inside and outside MedStar. The VP will ensure that application systems support the vision and strategies of MedStar. The VP will work to maximize the effectiveness and utilization of the installed systems. The VP will provide leadership for the planning, implementation and support of all information systems applications at MedStar. The VP will have a strong service orientation and will strive to mentor and develop a service-oriented team and support their individual and collective growth and development. Working closely with the CIO, he/she will play a key leadership role in the selection of new applications that support the goals of MedStar. The VP will work to educate and build consensus regarding applications initiatives by frequent, open and easily understood communications throughout the organization.
Primary Duties
1. Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
2. Develops and recommends department operating budget and manages resources according to approved budget.
3. Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
4. Provide leadership, direction and accountability for all information systems applications throughout MedStar Health (including Diversified Businesses).
5. Establish credibility throughout the organization including the senior management team, directors, managers, physicians and clinicians regarding information systems applications by providing informed leadership and service.
6. Works closely with the CIO and peers to ensure successful implementation and support of all application systems.
7. Develop and maintain a proactive customer support model and establish and sustain an environment of customer service.
8. Serve as liaison with strategic industry partners for all implemented systems and applications.
9. Reports to the CIO regularly through meetings and reports regarding any significant event, condition or trend that could have long range or substantial impact on the MedStar Health Information Services system implementation process.
10. Work closely with key physicians and clinicians to positively impact and improve patient care via clinical systems.
11. Work closely with administrative and financial staff to positively impact productivity and financial reporting via administrative and financial application systems.
12. Ensure that the application information systems team supports all new regulations and initiatives.
13. Establish vision and build consensus for future application systems improvements and implementations.
14. Promote effective communication between system users, IS technical and IS applications staff. Develop credible priority-setting mechanism and effectively communicate it.
15. Develop the IS structure and discipline required to effectively manage large scale system implementations.
16. Work collaboratively with the CTO and CISO to communicate and plan for the technical resources required to support MedStar applications.
17. Work collaboratively with the VP IS Customer Services to ensure the application needs of the MedStar Health hospitals and businesses are being met.
18. Participate in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.
19. Participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred. 15+ years' experience in IS, with 7 years in a management capacity in a large complex healthcare organization or vendor. Experience with EPIC EMR preferred.
This position has a hiring range of $310,800 - $420,400
