Overview:

 

The Payor Audits & Denials Team Lead is responsible for ensuring Mercy responds to audit requests by providing high quality documentation in a timely and accurate manner. This position serves as the liaison between care providers, payers, and other Mercy departments pertaining to the collection, management and analysis of patient health information required to support appropriate reimbursement for services provided by Mercy.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Health Care Administration or closely related field; or commensurate experience in lieu of a degree in addition to the required experience.
  • Experience:  A minimum of five years related healthcare experience in revenue cycle, health information management auditing or patient accounting experience preferred.
  • Preferred Certifications:  Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

 

OTHER SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to hospital and ambulatory reimbursement. 
  • Must have clinical or patient accounting background with fundamental knowledge of the Revenue Cycle Process, which includes patient access, case management/utilization review, charge capture, HIM, patient accounting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and clinical documentation related to reimbursement processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills to effectively interact with Finance, Business Office, Patient Financial Services, Health Information Management, Compliance, Contracting, Utilization Management and others as required.
  • Must possess the ability to prioritize, delegate, and organize various tasks/projects simultaneously to ensure departmental and Mercy-wide goals are timely met.
  • Possesses integrity, imagination and initiative as evidenced by self-improvement.
  • Demonstrates personal qualities such as kindness, compassion, understanding, integrity, interest and respect for others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information.
  • Ability to stay current on changing governmental regulations related to Recovery Audit Contractors and other Payor audits. 
  • Knowledge of computer applications and their implications on the revenue cycleCreative, results-oriented, well organized, task-driven, self-starter with high energy level, and ability to influence others
  • Strong business acumen with the skills to challenge leaders across all functional disciplines
  • Ability to work independently to accomplish and carry out goals/objectives in a collaborative manner.

  • Ability to travel periodically across the Ministry as required.
