Department: Float Pool, Mercy South

 

Shift: Part Time 24 Hours Week

Overview:

 

Under the supervision of an RN (Registered Nurse) or LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), provides close observation of patients. Assists in the provision of a safe and clean environment. Promotes the therapeutic environment and the efficiency of the nursing team. Can provide safe patient transport throughout the facility as directed. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.


Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma, G.E.D, CNA/CPCT certification or enrolled in a healthcare career program through their high school curriculum, and/or a current co-worker of Mercy.

  • Other: Working conditions, mental and physical requirements: Ability to sit for long periods of time remaining alert without distractions from personal business or other personal diversions. Occasional standing and walking.

Job Description:

 

Obtains appropriate handoff communication from the care team responsible for the assigned patient to include information regarding the patients identified care needs, diagnosis, visual, auditory, or language barriers, as well as any special consideration (dietary considerations, bed alarms, fall risk, ambulation status etc.).- Positions self in patient room to maintain constant visual observation of the patient, only leaving as directed by care team.- Observant of the patients activity and behavior and communicates on a regular basis to the responsible care team in a diplomatic and professional manner.- Maintains patient environment in a safe and orderly manner.- Notifies care team of any safety events, ex. behavioral changes, violent behavior, etc.- Maintains current knowledge of regulatory standards and requirements- Observes universal precautions consistently.- Performs other duties as assigned by the responsible RN, LPN, charge nurse, and/or nurse manager.Safety/Risk Management: - Follows Mercy policy and procedures related to safety, confidentiality, and patient rights/regulations.- Demonstrates knowledge of and practices sound infection prevention techniques.- Assesses safety needs and provides for a safe environment: ex: Fall Precautions; Restraint Management; Patient Identification; Unit/Departmental Specific Policies, Suicide Precautions
