About Pre-Op Unit -
In pre-op, nurses are dedicated to preparing patients for surgical procedures. This area functions as the first point of contact for patients which makes customer service a crucial aspect of the job. While doing this, patients are assured they are physically ready and mentally ready for their procedure. It is important to greet patients and families with a smile and maintain a calm professional demeanor which creates trust and eases anxiety for the patient and their family. Preop nurses are expected to collect medical and medication histories, conduct a head-to-toe assessment, IV insertion and therapy, Medication Administration, and documenting. Providing patients with a detailed informative process regarding their stay is always appreciated by patients and their families. This includes explaining the surgical procedure, who will be taking care of them, how long their procedure will last, as well as any expected outcomes. We work closely with surgeons and anesthesiologists. The department ensures that patients are prepared thoroughly and safely for their surgeries. Care for Cardiac Cath Lab, General, Urologic, Orthopedic, Gynecologic, Colorectal, Pain management, Interventional Radiology, and GI procedures.

Overview:
Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care. Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Evaluates the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and mercy service standards.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program
Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
- Experience: Pre-Op Experience
Certifications: - Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.
- Physical requirements/demands: - Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis- Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift- Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
