Overview:

 

Surgery coordinators are responsible and accountable for planning and organizing details of the surgery schedule within the surgical services subspecialty service. Work independently with delegated authority and responsibility from the Director of Surgical Services and clinical manager for the operation of specific clinical and administrative aspects of the operating room unit. Collaborate with director in the preparation of revenue and expense budget including human, financial, and material resources. Provide clinical leadership through development and maintenance of standards of specialty surgery, and clinical practice. Work collaboratively with surgery leadership and physicians to promote proactive, effective, interactive shared governance relationship in the management of specialty services. Maintain competent peri-operative skill level to ensure provision of safe quality patient care. The surgery coordinator assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures are followed. Is sensitive to the needs of patients, families and fellow co-workers. Provides professional care for patients in accordance with age specific needs, care for patients in accordance with any identified cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures). Co-workers are expected to abide by Mercy safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers.


Qualifications:

  • Experience:  Working knowledge and competency in basic procedures as defined as: General procedures, GYN, EENT, Urology, Orthopedic procedures, Plastic procedures, Basic Cardiovascular; procedure and Basic Neurological procedures. Experience in ordering OR supplies and inventory. 3-year surgical technologist experience or more, scheduling experience, and preceptor experience.
  • Required Education: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Tech Program. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Required, with a minimum of 3 years experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist. Will consider candidates with 3+ years of Surgical Technologist experience. They must obtain the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) within 6 month of hire
