Job Description:

Under the leadership of the department director, and assistant director, the Lead Charge Nurse is responsible and accountable for planning, directing, assessing and providing nursing care according to the policies and procedures of the hospital and department. Important dimensions of this position consist of quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, good public/customer relations and a broad nursing knowledge. The lead charge is a registered nurse who has been identified by the management team as having clinical expertise coupled with leadership qualities. 

• The Lead Charge Nurse role requires the ability to balance the realm of a front-line staff member while assuming responsibility for the collaboration and coordination of patient care for the whole unit.
• The Lead Charge Nurse will model the department and organization's mission of providing safe & quality patient care and practice as a good steward of resources.

Experience 

Minimum two years' experience working in an acute psychiatric care setting.  Must have served successfully in the role of charge nurse.

Education

Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.

Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment of patients requiring the applicable skill, and must complete and pass all annual competencies.

Licensure/Certifications

State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required. ANCC Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Board Certification preferred.
