Job Description:
The MOSM Urgent Care Medical Assistant plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, efficient patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment. Working under the supervision of the Clinical Operations Manager and a licensed provider, this position supports both administrative and clinical functions to ensure smooth daily operations and a positive patient experience. Key responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining and recording vital signs and medical histories, assisting with procedures, maintaining accurate documentation in the electronic health record, fitting and dispensing patients with durable medical equipment, checking in patients, checking insurance eligibility, and covering other medical assistants within the practice as needed.
Experience
The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong foundation in computer skills, including proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook. You should be computer literate and comfortable using various office machines and filing systems. Organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, adjust to changing deadlines, and handle emergency situations or shifting priorities. Attention to detail, conscientiousness, and a strong follow-through are key attributes for success in this role. Excellent telephone communications skills are necessary to maintain clear and professional interactions with patients and staff. Experience with Front Desk responsibilities, including eligibility verification, and checking in patients is preferred but not required.
Additionally, a solid understanding of mathematical concepts is required, including the ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. You must also be capable of managing cash transactions and reconciling cash drawer balances with computer system reports accurately. The ability to complete tasks in a timely manner while ensuring high-quality results is critical in this role.
Education
One-year certificate from college or technical school, and minimum one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses/Certifications
Current CPR certification. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required within 12 months of hire date. Effective May 1st, 2025, all incoming medical assistants are required to have a CCMA from an accredited medical assisting program.
