Job Description:

The acute psychiatric services registered nurse is responsible and accountable for planning, directing, assessing and providing nursing care for patients seeking and receiving acute psychiatric services. The registered nurse will support the care of psychiatric patients of all ages including children, adolescents, and adults through the care continuum of psychiatric clinical programs including but not limited to psychiatric consult, psychiatric observation, as well as adolescent residential program.


The role includes performing nursing assessments, providing medication and nursing education on an individual or group basis, administering medications, supporting milieu management and participating in collaborative coordination of care. The registered nurse demonstrates ability to communicate therapeutically and establish rapport with patients and their support persons. The
registered nurse will demonstrate knowledge and skill in the management of aggression, using verbal de-escalation techniques and least restrictive interventions appropriately. The registered nurse demonstrates knowledge of mental health law, including documentation requirements and patients' legal rights.


The registered nurse will provide clinical guidance and support for new hires, students, nursing assistants and behavioral health technicians. The registered nurse will assume relief charge nurse duty as oriented and assigned. The acute psychiatric services registered nurse reports to the Assistant Director of Acute Psychiatric Services. Additional clinical and quality feedback will be provided by the Behavioral Health Nurse Director, Behavioral Health and Ohana Medical
Directors, and Ohana Director of Clinical Services.

Experience
Minimum of one year experience working with psychiatric patients as a registered nurse preferred.


Education
Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred. Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment of patients requiring the applicable skill and must complete and pass all annual competencies.


Licensure/Certifications
State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required. ANCC Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Board Certification preferred. Will complete mandatory 5150 training by Monterey County to obtain 5150 certification. Will complete organization approved de-escalation training. Live Scan fingerprint clearance required by the Department of Healthcare Services is a job requirement.

Pay Range (based on years of applicable experience):

$71.40

to

$95.48

The hours employees work determine when a shift differential is paid.

Hourly Evening Shift Differential: $5.50 Hourly Night Shift Differential: $8.00
