Shift/Hours/Location: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm, Milwaukie, OR (Must have ability to live and work in Taiwan as needed for business needs) 

Under the direction of an R&D Manager I or above, the CS Engineer II will work to accomplish the goals of MLI's Applications R&D and Commercial groups. The CS Engineer II will be responsible to meeting all customers' needs along with the relevant account manager(s) and other local team(s); and escalate if there are issues.  In particular, the CS Engineer II is responsible for all technical work.  The duties and responsibilities will include managing resources required to meet customers' needs and escalate as needed.  Typical duties can include (but not limited to): local solution analysis, local demo support for R&D products, local analysis of customers' samples/products that are related to MLI's products, QC/QC issues on related to commercial products, technical matters related to registration of chemicals, and technical product development.  Local/Regional and International travel will be required.

WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON

  • Engage customers to understand needs/questions/issues.
  • Assist in providing updates to key customers and manage customer requirements and requests.
  • Prepare clear and concise project summaries of activities, projects, and priorities including needs and risks for achievement of objectives to established standards and timelines.
  • Proficient understanding of common experimental techniques - Benchtop electrochemical studies (e.g., RDE systems, paddle plating), Chemical/physical solution analysis (e.g., HPLC, CVS, spectroscopy), Surface and bulk analysis of thin films (e.g., SEM, FIB, AFM, profilometry, spectroscopy).  But bulk of time will be spent in actual sample analysis and general experimentations.
  • Provide support for technical issues to existing customers (inc. possibly non R&D specific tasks as required).
  • Screen the open literature / conferences for future technology needs and relevance of current projects.
  • Evaluate/understand technical requirements and needs in other technical areas to improve MLI's overall knowledge of new potential businesses/products.
  • Assist in formulating new products/technologies for MLI based on open literature, customer inputs, and market needs.
  • Finance/Budget - awareness and manage local external laboratory interactions.
  • MLI IP protection - strict MLI note keeping.
  • Uphold all MLI policies and "MLI Code of Conduct".
  • Strict compliance with Environmental and Safety regulations - consistent with US and local requirements.
  • Compliance and individual accountability with the MLI Quality System and ISO Registration is required.  It is the employee's commitment to ensure that the Company's actual practices and procedures are exercised as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluent in the local language written and oral. 
  • Ability to work and live in Taiwan up to 100% as needed for business needs; when working in US will be based out of Milwaukie, OR.
  • Excel in the ability to interact, collaborate, and support all departments at customer sites.
  • BS, MS, or Doctorate and/or equivalent experience in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or a related discipline.
  • Experience in electrochemistry related fields such as corrosion, electroplating is a plus.
  • Good English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy including ability to use software to prepare and revise reports and documents, analyze and present data.
  • Ability to understand and apply moderately complex or advanced chemical concepts in a laboratory setting.
  • Sufficient math and chemistry skills to enable calculation of dilutions, molarity, averages, standard deviations, balancing of chemical equations and other relevant mathematical manipulations to support job tasks.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and supportively with a broad range of individuals with different levels of education and experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously with guidance on priority in order to meet established deadlines.
  • Respond positively and effectively to rapidly changing priorities and departmental needs.
  • Perform necessary tasks and work hours needed to accomplish departmental and company goals.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties are generally performed indoors in an office/lab and high purity manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Employees will work in a covered Process Safety Management (PSM) environment containing threshold quantities of flammable liquids and/or gasses that have a potential for fire or explosion. Employees working in this environment are required to be free from devices that are not considered intrinsically safe. Examples of devices that may not be intrinsically safe include Insulin Pumps, Pacemakers, Pain Management devices, etc.  The employee may work in the presence of fumes or airborne particles, hot, toxic, or corrosive chemicals, water, liquids, and electrical equipment.   When working in the presence of safety hazards, the employee is expected to follow company safety rules and use proper personal protective equipment such as: respirator, hardhat, protective clothing, safety glasses, safety footwear, and full leather shoes, etc.
