Job Description

Primary Purpose:

The B3 Field Safety Supervisor serves as a territory-level safety leader responsible for conducting field and site safety assessments, delivering safety training to craft and conductor trainees (CTs), and supporting hazard management aligned with NS-RRP standards. This role plays a key part in local safety incident response, including fact-gathering, reenactments, and corrective actions. Supervisors model exemplary safety behavior, maintain consistent field engagement, and build trust through visible leadership. They are empowered to stop unsafe work, recommend corrective actions, and are accountable for meeting monthly goals in assessments and training delivery while maintaining clear communication with division safety leadership.

 

Principal Duties:

  • Conduct field and site safety assessments to evaluate compliance with Norfolk Southern's safety and operating rules and NS-RRP standards.
  • Deliver safety training to craft employees and conductor trainees, including micro-trainings and start-of-shift safety briefings.
  • Serve as a visible and consistent safety presence in crew rooms and field locations to promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Participate in incident response activities including fact-gathering, reenactments, and development of corrective actions.
  • Support hazard identification and mitigation efforts in collaboration with division safety leadership.
  • Maintain accurate records of assessments, training sessions, and corrective actions.
  • Communicate safety trends, concerns, and best practices to division leadership and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Empowered to stop unsafe work and initiate corrective actions to ensure employee safety.
  • Collaborate with Field Safety Representatives and other safety personnel to align safety efforts across the division.
  • Meet monthly goals for safety assessments and training delivery.

 

Job Related Experience:

  • Minimum Level: 3-5 years
  • Preferred Level: 5-8 years

 

Education:

  • Preferred Level:
    • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
  • Preferred Majors:
    • Transportation Operations / Logistics
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Civil or Mechanical Engineering
    • Occupational Health and Safety

 

Licenses / Certifications:

  • Required: None
  • Preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

 

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of safety and operating rules and their application in field operations
  • Familiarity with NS-RRP standards and hazard management practices
