At NorthBay Health, the Director of Community Engagement serves as a senior leader responsible for developing, executing, and evaluating strategies that strengthen NorthBay Health's visibility, reputation, and relationships throughout the region including Solano, Napa, and Yolo Counties. This role ensures NorthBay Health is viewed as a trusted healthcare partner and anchor institution committed to improving the health and vitality of the region. The Director leads community engagement initiatives, oversees partnerships with civic and nonprofit organizations, and fosters cross-departmental collaboration to align outreach activities with organizational goals and the system's mission of improving the well-being of our communities by providing conveniently accessible high-quality care. 

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES Community Engagement & Outreach
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement strategy that aligns with NorthBay Health's strategic plan and community benefit priorities.

  • Build and sustain relationships with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, FQHC's, schools, business associations, chambers of commerce, and local organizations across Solano, Napa, and Yolo Counties.

  • Represent NorthBay Health at community meetings, local events, health fairs, and educational forums.

  • Oversee sponsorships, community partnerships, and local leadership speaking opportunity engagements to enhance NorthBay Health's visibility and goodwill.

  • Serve as a trusted resource to the community, ensuring that NorthBay Health's voice and values are reflected in local and regional conversations about health and wellness.

  • Maintain awareness of emerging funding and grant opportunities relevant to organizational priorities and bring potential opportunities to the appropriate team for consideration and development.

  1. Stakeholder Relations & Advocacy

  • Serve as liaison between hospital leadership and community stakeholders, addressing inquiries, concerns, and opportunities for collaboration.

  • Partner with internal departments (e.g., clinical, patient experience, population health) to ensure alignment of community engagement with patient-centered initiatives.

  • Participate in public policy discussions, regional health coalitions, and community health assessments to represent NorthBay's perspective and advocate for equitable healthcare access.

  • Maintain active engagement with local government, school districts, nonprofit agencies, and advocacy groups to strengthen NorthBay Health's regional influence and collaborative impact.

  • Help lead the planning and execution of community health education programs, wellness initiatives, and outreach activities responsive to community health needs.

Public Relations & Communications
  • Partner with Marketing and Communications leadership to ensure community-facing messaging, campaigns, and materials consistently reflect NorthBay Health's mission, values, and impact.

  • Identify opportunities for storytelling and public recognition of NorthBay Health's community contributions and partnerships.

  • Collaborate on event promotion, media relations, and internal communications that celebrate community impact.

Leadership & Administration
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Community Engagement team, setting clear goals, metrics, and professional development objectives.

  • Oversee budgets for community sponsorships, outreach events, and partnerships; evaluate ROI and resource allocation.

  • Develop annual engagement plans, reports, and dashboards for executive review.

  • Ensure internal alignment and communication across departments to prevent duplication and maximize community impact.

  • Serve as a thought leader and spokesperson on issues of community relations, corporate social responsibility, and population health engagement.

Qualifications

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Public Health, Marketing, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred (e.g., Public Administration, Health Administration, or Strategic Communications).

  2. Experience: Minimum 5–7 years of of progressively responsible experience in community relations, public affairs, or healthcare/nonprofit leadership, with at least 3 years in a management or director-level capacity. Demonstrated success developing community engagement strategies, managing partnerships, and leading public-facing initiatives. Experience working with diverse communities, local government, media, and nonprofit organizations across multiple counties or service regions.

  3. Skills:

  • Skilled collaborator capable of influencing and leading cross-functional teams.

  • Deep understanding of community health needs, social determinants of health, and regional dynamics in Solano, Napa, and Yolo Counties.

  • Ability to analyze data, measure impact, and prepare clear, concise reports.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM tools, and stakeholder management platforms.

  2. Hours of Work: Monday through Friday; eight hours each day; weekend and holiday assignments with adjusted work week schedule as needed. Optional hybrid schedule with minimum three days a week on-site. Must be available for evenings, weekends, and irregular hours required by events.

  3. Compensation: 175k to $190k based on years of experience doing the duties of the role.
