The Center for Neurocritical Care at the Northwell Health System and the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell is seeking neurointensivists to join its expanding neurocritical care program with opportunities available at North Shore University Hospital and South Shore University Hospital. North Shore University Hospital (NSUH), located in Manhasset Long Island, is the main academic campus for Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. With over 800 beds, North Shore is the only center that has achieved both ACS verified Level 1 Trauma Center designation and Comprehensive Stroke Center designation from the Joint Commission within the region. Additionally, NSUH has since announced the completion of a decades-long project, the Petrocelli Surgical Pavilion, a $560 million, 288,000 square-foot tower which consists of a new state-of-the-art 22 bed neurosurgical ICU and is fully equipped and hardwired for multimodal neuromonitoring.
South Shore University Hospital (SSUH), located in Bay Shore Long Island. a 305-bed hospital that is rapidly growing with plans to potentially expand to over four hundred beds. SSUH is home to the Linda and John Bohlsen Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, a 6,300 square foot facility with the latest state-of-the-art technology and equipment. The ICU is staffed by fellowship-trained, board-certified?neurointensivists?and neuroscience-trained physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners, and includes eight private patient rooms with bathrooms and areas for visitors.?The unit is also equipped with our hospital's first portable CT scanner, eICU capabilities and specialized overhead lighting that allows physicians to perform minor procedures at the bedside.
About the Center for Neurocritical Care:
The Center is comprised of 17 board certified / fellowship trained neurointensivists who currently provide in-house neurocritical care coverage at North Shore University Hospital, Staten Island University Hospital, South Shore University Hospital, Phelps Hospital in Westchester County, and Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. The Center, in partnership with the Northwell Health Tele-ICU program, has developed a novel e-NeuroICU program which provides emergent neurocritical care consultations to emergency rooms and ICUs throughout the health system. Neurocritical care faculty actively participates in NIH, industry, and investigator-initiated clinical trials including StrokeNET in which Northwell participates as a regional hub, and is supported by an acute care research nurse, coordinators, and departmental director of clinical research programs. The Center participates in both UCNS and CAST accredited fellowship programs training a total of five fellows each year and is currently applying for ACGME accreditation.
About the successful candidate:
The candidate will be BE/BC in neurocritical care with strong educational, clinical, and leadership skills capable of leading a large multidisciplinary ICU team. Candidates will have clinical appointments at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level through the Zucker School of Medicine and must be eligible for licensure in the State of New York. Candidates with a track-record of clinical or basic science research are especially encouraged to apply and will be supported by a robust research infrastructure.
