Position Summary:

NRECA's Membership and Business Development department prides itself on service excellence.  Membership is responsible for successful member engagement programs, effective membership operations and maintaining a robust membership database (NetForum).   Business Development is responsible for cultivating long-lasting relationships with our service and associate members and delivering excellent ROI on sponsorship and advertising opportunities.


Leads and sets strategic direction of Membership department as NRECA's primary portal for access to and delivery of member-facing services for all NRECA members. Develops and manages business standards for member interactions to ensure information accuracy and excellent customer support. Develops efficient processes to ensure reliability and availability of membership data used to support member communications and guide business-critical decisions. Develops and directs consistent business policies and practices for all voting and Affiliate and International member types and ensures bylaw compliance. Manages membership onboarding, offboarding, and dues collection. Works with the Marketing department to formulate marketing campaigns and implements those campaigns. Crafts and implements NRECA strategic member engagement initiatives to foster improved long-term relationships between NRECA and its members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads and sets strategic direction of Membership department as NRECA's primary portal for access to and delivery of member facing services for 1100 organizations and their 72,000 employees.
  • Delivers member-facing service and support of voting members, affiliate and international members and their employees. Takes immediate action on delicate tasks and deals with member problems directly and discreetly.
  • Develops and manages department budget and reviews invoices for payment.
  • Contributes to project management and communications for Membership team as well as in collaboration with the Marketing team.
  • Recruits, onboards, and develops direct reports. Coaches staff to become a highly functioning, adaptive team. Sets team strategies and oversees team performance based on annual strategic priorities.
  • Oversees processes and standards related to member interactions and membership data and ensures bylaw compliance. Ensures the reliability and availability of membership data used to support member communications and guide business-critical decisions. Develops procedures to ensure key data on member organizations, related organizations, vendors, business partners as well as the directors and employees of these organizations is accurate and current. Identifies systemic issues/changes ideal for automation to advance data integrity across systems.
  • Develops collaborative and trusted working relationships with senior leaders and key staff to improve service and execute strategies developed by executive leadership to maximize value to our members. Looks for ways the Membership department can support and collaborate with other departments to improve service to our members.
  • Manages processes for member application, onboarding and offboarding for all NRECA member types and oversees timely application of membership privileges and dues collection. Administers consistent, respectful member and cross-departmental processes for collection actions.
  • Works with the Marketing department to formulate member engagement campaigns and implements those campaigns. Responsible for crafting and implementing NRECA strategic member engagement initiatives to foster improved long-term relationships between NRECA and its members.
  • Oversees department projects and initiatives, including: annual voting member survey, AMS enhancement and upgrade projects, enhancements and analysis of member profile data, new member engagement programs. Ensures consistent data integrity and reporting across all initiatives.
  • Based on findings, makes recommendations to and works with senior management across departments to develop a comprehensive member engagement strategy in order to maximize member value.
  • Responsible for the proper security and disposal of any confidential information that he or she may possess in the course of performing this position's job duties, as well as ensuring staff compliance with security protocols in accordance with NRECA's Personnel and Administrative Policy and HIPAA Privacy and Security Policies and Procedures Manuals.

Qualifications

Formal Education Required:

Bachelor's degree in business management or related field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience and Certifications Required:

  • 10 or more years of experience in a membership organization with some experience managing special projects.
  • 5 or more years management experience, ideally with managing a membership team in a trade association. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (as demonstrated by prior work experience):

  • Knowledge of NRECA bylaws.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple projects at various stages of development using effective organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in the execution of all duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to coach, train and mentor staff according to NRECA's mission, vision and values.
  • Ability to analyze demographic information at company and employee levels.
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse membership, employees and/or vendors in a clear and precise manner.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point) and to operate various office equipment such as personal computer, copier, printer, fax machine or other job-related equipment.
  • Ability to provide service excellence by building relationships, being resourceful, responsive and respectful.
  • Ability to travel.

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
