Summary of Position:


NRECA's Business and Technology Strategies (BTS) department provides actionable guidance regarding opportunities and challenges facing our industry to support co-op decision-making, solutions application, resiliency, and affordable and reliable electrical power. We engage directly with internal and external stakeholders and represent our members' needs in key industry forums to help ensure the continued success of America's electric cooperatives and to showcase their value to consumer-members, the U.S. economy, and the national grid. NRECA members rely on BTS for insights and recommendations on current and future trends affecting operations, technology planning, consumer expectations, and policy.

 

The BTS Innovation and Emerging Technology team is looking for a Senior Analyst, Energy Industry Data to analyze energy industry trends, develop forecasts, and create impactful analytical products that support decision-making across NRECA and its membership. Working independently and with subject matter experts, you'll turn complex data into actionable insights that make a difference. This position is eligible for NRECA's hybrid schedule which allows flexibility to work from home up to 2 days per/week.

 

Key Responsibilities:


  •  Analyzes electric cooperative and broader energy industry data to identify economic, operational, policy, technology, power supply, rate, and other industry trends.
  • Develops research questions and analytical approaches that address electric cooperative and broader energy industry issues.
  • Applies statistical modeling, quantitative methods, and economic analysis to test hypotheses, evaluate trends, and develop forecasts related to energy supply, consumption, cooperative economics, and other industry conditions.
  • Manages, queries, integrates, and transforms datasets from multiple sources and establishes practices that support data quality, integrity, consistency, and appropriate use across research projects.
  • Develops and maintains interactive dashboards, data visualizations, reports, and other analytical products that make complex industry information accessible and useful to internal teams, members, and stakeholders.
  • Interprets and communicates technical and economic findings through written reports, presentations, webinars, podcasts and other member and stakeholder outreach.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


  • 5+ years of experience in economics, energy, or policy analysis related to energy supply and consumption, or related areas.
  • Experience applying analytical methods to assess how industry trends and changes in wholesale electricity markets, renewable energy, distributed energy, and retail rates impact utilities and their members.
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, engineering, data science, statistics, energy or environmental policy, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred
  • Knowledge of the electric power industry, including generation, transmission, distribution, demand, utility economics, market fundamentals, and factors affecting electric cooperatives.
  • Knowledge of energy industry datasets and data sources, including U.S. Energy Information Administration data and similar industry resources.
  • Ability to provide service excellence by building relationships, being resourceful, responsive and respectful.
  • Ability to travel.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with common AI tools (e.g., Microsoft CoPilot, Claude, ChatGPT), cloud data warehouse/platform technologies (e.g. Snowflake), automation tools and scripting (e.g., Python, R, Power Automate, or similar) and economic modeling tools (e.g., IMPLAN or similar) preferred.

 

Essential Physical Requirements:


  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Salary Range: $106,000 - $130,000

Final Compensation determined by individual qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
