Position Summary:

The PIRC team provides financial education to Co-op employees who participate in either of the NRECA-sponsored retirement plans. This particular role is primarily focused on and providing education on a participant's options with their retirement benefits after a separation event, i.e., retirement, changing employers, death, divorce, etc. and assisting participants to completing the necessary forms. Employees in this role should also expect to receive calls regarding general financial planning as it serves as a back-up for calls normally handled by our planners.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Performs all responsibilities in a manner consistent with exceptional customer service in accordance with the mission statement: “To provide high quality, objective investment and retirement education to NRECA member employees, relative to NRECA-sponsored investment products when appropriate for consideration based on the individual's personal circumstance.”
  • Responds to requests generated through member contact services (toll-free # and general email box), prioritizing responding to requests for participant assistance with distribution option forms, documenting conversations with participants and using tools and procedures to ensure proper follow-up and service.
  • Executes ongoing relationship management strategy to maintain a high level of engagement and satisfaction.
  • Maintains an extensive knowledge base on a broad range of financial planning and pension topics, including: the latest legal and business developments in the areas of retirement/investment planning, education funding, personal portfolio management, securities, life insurance/annuities, tax laws and estate planning issues; as well as Social Security and Medicare. Builds comprehensive knowledge of NRECA's policies and procedures and detailed knowledge of NRECA's pension, health and welfare plans and how they affect and interact with a participant's financial situation.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years' experience working in relationship management, sales, trusts & estates, and or investment advisory services within the financial services industry. Must possess and maintain a professional designation such as CFP®, CEBS®, ChFC®, CLU, CRPC®, or RICP® or if previously maintained Series 6, 7, 63, 65 or 66 license, must obtain a professional designation such as CFP®, CEBS®, ChFC®, CLU, or RICP® within two years.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business, finance, accounting, securities, insurance or pension plans consulting individuals on financial planning issues.
  • Knowledge with regard to: defined benefit and defined contribution plans and how they affect and interact with an employee's financial situation; the latest legal and business developments in the areas of retirement/investment planning, education funding, personal portfolio management, securities, life insurance/annuities, tax laws and estate-planning issues; Social Security and Medicare as demonstrated by prior work experience. 
  • Ability to relate to each individual based on that individual's levels of investment and financial sophistication as demonstrated by prior work experience. 
  • Ability to listen and interpret the customer's needs, de-escalate difficult client interactions, while at the same time researching the issue and applying broad business and technical knowledge to meet the customer's satisfaction as demonstrated by prior work experience.
  • Interpersonal skills, member service orientation and ability to work in a team environment as demonstrated by prior work experience.

Essential Physical Requirements:

• The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.

• Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
