Site Description:
Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS) is the Eastern Urban Zone and serves as the primary provider of acute, community, and long-term healthcare for the St. John's/Metro region. As the largest healthcare hub in the province, the St. John's area includes major facilities such as the Health Sciences Centre, St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, and the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre. The region delivers a broad range of services including emergency care, specialized medical and surgical programs, mental health and addictions support, community health services and comprehensive clinical support programs. NLHS also offers multiple long-term care & rehabilitation facilities.
Position Details:
Position: Casual Security Guard
Site: Various sites in St. John's - Metro
Overtime: Overtime after 48 hours
Hours: As required
Payrate: $ 19.67/hour

Key responsibilities:
- Patrol Facility Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of facility premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
- Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
- Access Control: Monitor and control entry points to the facility, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
- Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist medical staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
- Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and medical staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to facility policies and procedures.
- Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
- Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
- Collaboration with Medical Staff: Work closely with medical staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
- Enforce Facility Policies: Ensure that facility policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds facility safety standards.
Prerequisites:
- Valid Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor)
- Valid Class 5 Driver License & must be willing to take shifts at sites within a reasonable driving distance.
- English (oral and written) fluency is a must
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
- Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
- Applicants who do not yet hold these certifications may complete Paladin's (unpaid day of) UoF/MOAB pre-requisite training program prior to onboarding, with all training costs covered by Paladin in exchange for a 6 months commitment to the position and required availability.
